We managed to say our goodbyes to Jordan, Jhordy, and Vero.
Monday again was a bad day for me. I was still really sick and poor Eli had to put up with me. Seems like lots of things went wrong.
1. We left some of our extra clothes in Peru, guess that's not such a big deal.
2. Security took away our guanabana jam!! it was 0.8ml too big..regulations were 1.5 and it was 2.3 or something like that. Arg.
3. Immigration in Chile gave us lots of problems coming through. I guess I could see that because we were two young girls coming into a foreign country to visit strangers...but still. They should know we are tired and just wanting a bed, right? ;) We were super tired from a night bus and only a couple hours of sleep, so we weren't giving them the answers they wanted. Finally got through.
4. Sue had given us 2 apples in Peru in case we didn't have anything to eat at the airport. So we stuck them in the backpack, but forgot to declare them. Agriculture people had a conniption and we spent a good 45 mins being lectured on how that's against the law, you could be fined, sign all these papers, blah blah blah. Finally got through. We survived, barely. ;)
Jon and the man of the home (where we would leave Peru things during our visit in Chile) were waiting outside for us when we finally got through. It was nice to have a familiar face to pick us up, to not have to think about where we were going next, and also to meet a new one!
Immediately we could see the difference between Peru and Chile. Chile is much more European influenced, much more modern, and much more wealthy (than the parts of Peru that we were in). But I don't know that I could say I like one country better than the other, they are incomparable.
Monday night we ate dinner at Juan y Cote's house with Jon and another worker from Brazil, Marcelo, I think it is. Our night bus left from Santiago at 10pm that night, and we arrived in Villarica at 5:30am on Tuesday.
