This morning, our tour started at 6 in the morning. We got up early and met our group in the plaza, then caught a bus going up to Machu Picchu.
It amazes me how they get tour buses to fit on these tiny dirt roads leading up the mountain, and the buses are able to even make the hairpin turns.
So anyway, we got to Machu Picchu with our group at around 7:15am. A small 15min hike would take you to the beginning of the Incan ruins in the Andes mountains. It's hard to describe the sheer wonder of the ruins - pictures can hardly even describe them. Ill upload some pictures later and maybe that will give you an idea of what we saw..maybe. It's hard to believe that there was actually civilization there at one time.
So our tour lasted until 9 o'clock and then we were on our own to explore. Just some things I found interesting about these ruins:
-There was only one "toilet" in the whole ruins. It was reserved solely for the ruler over the people and his wife.
-Although now only the rocks of the ruins are visible, at one point all the structures were stuccoed and painted different bright colors (like orange, red, pink, blue, etc).
-The mountain that you always see behind the ruins in pictures of Machu Picchu isn't actually the mountain called Machu Picchu, it's directly across the ruins on the other side!
Thanks for not getting too bored with my posts, I'm not too good at making them sound interesting. Hope you all are having a good Monday. More later.
