Day 14 - Denarau to Royal Davui Island. Fiji
Well not too much of a lie in as it was really noisy here in the Hilton. I was fine as I had ear plugs in (seasoned traveller you see; well actually spending far too many nights in anonymous hotels whilst working), but Bill didn't and was awake half the night. Anyway nice leisurely breakfast and a walk along the beach before checking out. The car to the airport arrived spot on time and we felt like royalty being escorted to a small area of the airport to catch our flight to Royal Davui. It actually wasn't a seaplane but a six seater islander which landed at Pacific Harbour after about 20 mins in the air; we were then whisked across the water to the island at about 35knots. It was just the 2 of us plus a young couple from Mumbai on their honeymoon.
We landed at the small jetty on Royal Davui to be met by the manager, Julie and a welcome group of singers, given a welcome drink and cold towels, shown around the island and then to our vale (bungalow). Oh wow, I've never seen anything quite like it and I've stayed in some swanky places. I don't think anywhere we stay after this is going to match this. The attention to detail is fantastic, you can even open the roof shutters in the bathroom to have a Jacuzzi bath in the sun whilst looking out over the ocean and every vale has its own plunge pool. Lunch today as its Sunday was a BBQ which was fantastic and we went on a guided snorkel this afternoon. We expected it to be about half an hour but ended up swimming the entire circumference of the island and being out for over an hour. Missed the tip in the welcome pack that recommended wearing a T shirt when snorkeling and consequently the high factor sun cream I had on my back wasn't sufficient and I have burnt! The fish life and coral were amazing though, even saw some small black tipped sharks, only babies otherwise you wouldn't have got me anywhere near the water. Going to turn in now as it's been an exhausting day in paradise.
