Today we went to the largest ever discovered ice caves in the Alpine Mountains, they were absolutely amazing. We walked 1km into the caves (the whole cave system goes for about 47km).To get to the caves, we had to walk up an extremely steep hill for 20 minutes to get to a cable car (the steepest cable car in Europe) and then we had to walk up another equally steep hill for another 20 minutes to the caves entrance, as we were going to ice cave we had several layers on, by the time we reached the top we had all layers off, and before we had a chance to cool back down to normal temperature, we were in the caves. There is no lighting in the caves whatsoever! Every 3rd person was given an old school lamp that was working off carbon rocks or something and the guide would light magnesium strips when he had something he wanted to have a lot of light for us.As the guide opened the door to the caves entrance, the cave was sucking in as much hot air in as possible which created a huge updraft for the first 2metres in the cave. We then walked up and down over 1400 steps within the cave to see all of the natural ice formations. As we walked out of the caves, the updraft was quite strong and it felt like the caves were pushing us out!
