Amsterdam catch up
I did not have a chance to write day by day things for Amsterdam (mostly because we had no way of charging our electrical equipment, so here's the catch up…
We stayed in Camp Zeeburg, which was a really good location, only 10-15 minutes tram ride from city centre, it was good except it cost 80cents for a 7 minute shower and when I washed my hair for the first time there I ran out of time and had no extra coins so I had to leave conditioner in until the next time I had a shower. Not cool!
We went on the free walking tour and saw monuments like Anne Franks house (she wrote a diary through WWII which became a world famous book that I've never read), the Jewish quarters, Red light district, the royal palace (which no ones ever lived in), Nieuwe Markt (the square in which they used to chop off peoples heads) and saw lots of coffee shops along the way (where you can buy and smoke pot) Café's are bars, coffee shops sell pot and koffiehuis is where you can get actual coffee (this was very confusing).
The second day we went on a Red Light District tour, which went through the history of the Red light and showed us around the area today, there were 1500 windows 4 years ago, now there's something like 250 left, and by 2012 they're all going to be shut down.
The next day we went to a brewery which is inside a windmill, which was pretty cool, we wet on a tour of the brewery and stayed for a few beers afterwards.
On our last day, we went just outside Amsterdam to a cheese and clog making farm. It was a total waste of time, because when we got there it was just a souvenir shop in a shed which sold all the same things as the souvenir shops in the city. But at least we got to see a bit of back country, which was really quite lovely.
We had fun in Amsterdam, but I am in no rush to go back, it was really expensive and far too dense in population, but we did get to ride on the Tram, that was cool.
