Hey there people:)
Now I have left Singapore and I am back in Australia.
After one night I picked up Silje and Lars, who is some friends of mine from college in Trondheim, Norway. We all slept one night in Brisbane and then headed towards Airlie beach and the WhitsundaysJ
After some time at Direct Factory Outlet in Brisbane we drove all the way up to Rockhampton, there we had a meal at McDonalds, because everything else was closed after 9pm there.
The next morning we headed up to Airlie beach and checked in to a hostel I had been before, Bush Village. We had some thinking time and decided to book a sailing trip for the next two nights and three days :)
So Saturday morning we found our way down to the marina and climbed aboard Eureka 2, where we met some other people also going on the sailing trip and the Captain Mel, and his crew Martin.
The first day we went snorkeling at a great spot and got to see a lot of things, I love the Great Barrier Reef:), I also saw a very big ray. On the way out to where we were going to sleep that night we got to experience some extreme sailing (at least for me). We had plenty of wind and waves so we sailed vertically at some stages, the boat must have been 45 degrees… it was a very interesting experience. Lars has been sailing for many years and got to help around on the boat, which was good :)
During the night the storm kept going and they sent out a cyclone warning. To be honest that is the worst night of sleep I have ever had. We three had one cabin on our own, but boat cabins are not the biggest. I slept in the top bunk and they had a double bed under me. First of all the cabin was extremely hot! So that made it very hard to sleep, the boat was also rocking a lot because of the waves, it seriously sounded as if some animal where trying to get in to the cabin at some points during the night, but apparently it was normal..
It also sounded as I was sleeping on a water tank.I went up on deck several times during the night to cool off a little, because of the extreme heat. All in all I think I slept one hour during that night, but apparently so had the rest of the boat. We decided to try and go to Whitehaven beach anyway and got through the passage.
The next day apparently the cyclone had gotten worse and joined another cyclone, so now it was one big one on the way named Olga. Silje and Lars got badly sunburned even though it was overcast the last day, so they really began using more sunscreen and stayed less in the sun.
When we got ashore by Whitehaven beach the sun came out and it became extremely hot but very nice:) we walked up to a lookout there and saw Whitehaven beach from above which is definitively worth the walk up there, the view is amazing!! Then we continued the walk down to the beach and walked around there, apparently it is made of 95% silica and we could really feel that when we came down there, it was the softest beach I have ever walked on, not joking here! It was extremely beautifulJ after some photos at the beach we walked back to the entry point of the island and had lunch there; Martin was a great cook by the way.
Then we headed back to place between some islands where it was really calm and still water. We had some dinner and some beers with the people on the boat, and that night we finally got some sleep I think I slept 6-7 hours:)when we woke up the last day we sailed to another snorkeling and diving spot and went snorkeling in the blue lagoon I think they called it. Snorkeling here was amazing, a great underwater world here in Queensland. Then we had an amazing lunch and decided to sail back to Airlie beach:) this day was also Silje's birthday so we checked into a best western hotel, which we felt we deserved after a couple of nights on the sea. Later we went out to a better dinner and got a good night sleep at the hotel:)
Then later on we drove down to Gold coast and had some great days in three theme parks: Wet'n Wild, Movieworld and Sea world. Sea World has an amazing dolphin show:)
Then we had some days at the beach which was amazing:)
Then we went back to Brisbane had one day at Lone Pine Koala sanctuary, and one day at Moreton Island which was awesome. Moreton Island is the third biggest sand island in the world and it was really amazing:)
We went sandboarding there which is one of the coolest things ever, and then we also had some snorkeling in the Tangalooma wrecks by the beach there, which also was a great experience:)
So now they have left after 17 days where we have travelledJ very nice holiday, but I still have 2 weeks until school begins so maybe I will have some more stuff to do I can write about later:)
So until next time
