Around the world(ish) Katy's way!
Ahhh so today i went to go see the school i will be teaching at for the next 3 months. Its right beside this shanty town, which the director was showed me, as most of the kids in the school live there, which is such a shame, and depite any problems that they may have they are all so happy and cheerful!! Actually everyone here is soooooooooooo friendly, they were so patient with me despite my inability to understand what they were saying. Some have a basic grasp of english so we can kind of understand each other. Theres another vouluteer there, not from i-to-i i dont think, shes from the basque country in spain, shes been there since the end of august, so were both kind of new. There is THE most amazing view from the second storey of the school, you can see right accross to the mountains in the west, and the whole valley is full of deep green vegetation, its soooo beautiful!! Such a contrast to the shanty town on the other side of the school. The school teaches from pre-school to the equivelent of p7/s1 (i think!! the oldest kids are about 12/13) Although the kids are all so small because they dont have a very good diet, i thought the 12 yr olds were 7, and the ones who stayed for lunch ate soooooooo much im guessing its the only square meal they get a day. It would have been hilarious watching me try to explain what haggis is, i kept on saying the portugese word for sheep, and i have no idea what oats are in spanish, so they will probably think its something completely different!!! hehe!
This evening we didnt do much, i had a go at preparing some lessons, we went to get ice cream, which was crazy, 3 scoops of pretty good ice cream for under 70p!!!!! compared to the 2.85 it would cost in burns!! yum yum! Then Leon, the driver person(i think) brought round some of his collection of 500 pirate dvds so we watched the new superman, which was so funny because it had been filmed in the cinema so the picture was all pixelated and not only did you get the odd head bobbing up, you could hear the audience every time they laughed of coughed or just made any noise!!! hilarious!!
