We arrived into Rome in the late afternoon and headed straight to our hotel to check in then it was time to catch the bus and train into the city for our Rome walking tour which Bronwyn took us on. First stop was the Spanish Steps which for some reason I just adore! Even in the bust ing hot afternoon sun I still couldn't get enough of them. Next we moved on to the Trevino Fountain where we pushed our way through the swarms of tourists to throw our coins in the fountain. Moving on and next was the Pantheon but more importantly Will's Gelato shop. He had been talking it up most of the trip so far and it by far beat any expectation I ever had! With 126 flavours to choose from you can't go wrong and I was in absolute heaven! Hard to move on from there and nothing else was going to top my night, next stop was the Colosseum. As the sun was going down we all had picture perfect shots of this amazing structure. After taking it all in a few of us headed out to dinner where I had the most amazing spinach and ricotta pasta. After dinner it was time to head home on the train then we caught the most craziest bus ride back to the hotel. The driver sure did love his breaks and we were pretty lucky to make it back alive!
Next morning we headed straight for the Roman Forum to view all the old city ruins. It was a super hot day so waiting in line in the sun for an hour wasn't ideal but at least we had a pre-purchased ticket to head straight into he colosseum after were were done and skipping those lines was a treat! After here is grabbed a gelato and made our way back to the Pantheon for lunch then it was time to play in the fountain to cool down and after all that hard work it was gelato time again from my new favourite place in the world! Shopping was on our agenda next and we slowly took the streets and got lost in all the alleyways and made our way back to the Spanish Steps and then to catch the metro back to our hotel. At the bus stop we made a new friend "Nonna" and she spoke now word if English and we don't know too much Italian but it was pretty funny trying to communicate with her. As the bus was 40mins late she was going off in Italian and she thought it was hilarious when we cheered and clapped when the bus finally arrived. We left her on the bus with some "ciao ciao" and off we went to the hotel. Next morning we headed into the Vatican City where Amy and I headed off to clime the dome of he Bascilica while the rest of the group did a Vatican tour. OMG there were a he'll of slot of stairs! 580 (1000+ up and down!) to be exact and it wasn't even the stairs that were the issue it was the claustrophobia of the stair cases that made it pretty uncomfortable in the heat. But all was worth it with the views of the city that you could get from that hight. Afterwards we hit a few shops and hen grabbed som Pizza and headed back to the meeting spot to join the rest of the group xox
