It was pouring in Padron, so I got a later start (10am). More rain predicted later in the day, so I made a plan to only go to Teo today. I felt the need to prepare a bit instead of arriving in Santiago tired and smelly*, which is what I would have been if I pushed it.
I reached a big milestone today - since I arrived in Portugal, I have walked a total of over 200 miles (this is total covered which includes sightseeing, not 100% Camino), but still! ;)
I´m so glad I stopped 1/2 way today. I found a lovely private albergue, which also had a restaurant on the first floor. Got into my flip-flops for the night as soon as I checked in (ahhhh). Also scored a bottom bunk!
The building had a very nice courtyard in the back where I did laundry and then sat outside and caught up on some blogging.
I also had a chance to clean out my water pack, repack everything in my bag, and just relax and prepare for the big day tomorrow. Can´t believe I´ll be in Santiago already - wow.
Had chicken (and of course, French fries) for dinner. Early night tonight in preparation for tomorrow - Big day!
Oh, and I heard from some friends already in Santiago that they only did the "Botafumeiro"** on Fridays and Sundays, but that the buzz around Santiago was that someone had sponsored it for tomorrow's mass. Definitely need to see that! Since mass is at noon, will have to start early (in dark) to make it, but can't miss this opportunity!
** the "Botafumeiro" is a giant incense burner that was originally added to the pilgrim mass to fumigate the sweaty (and possibly disease ridden) pilgrims. It requires a half a dozen assistants known as Tiraboleiros to make this happen. I would highly recommend that you "you tube" this to see it. I saw it in the movie "The Way" and it looks incredible.
* along the way, I passed by a fresh pile of horse...shall we say #2. It was completely covered in flies. As I walked by, 3 of the flies actually left their current habitat and landed on my shirt and bubba straps. Seriously. I must have smelled more interesting to them than their current location. A clear sign that I need to do laundry....
Stats:
Start: Padron, Spain (10am)
End: Teo, Spain (2pm)
Miles: 9.42
Blisters: 2 (sewing seems to be helping!)
