It's funny how the body bounces back. Would have never thought I'd be back on the Camino after last night's pain - but here I am, walking again! (And feeling good!)
Slept in this morning - didn't set alarm. By the time I headed out, it was 10am! Yikes! Luckily there were clouds and some overcast skies, so I didn't get the heat of the mid-day sun.
So, if you have been following along with my selfies, you are probably enjoying (laughing at) my hair stylings (if you can call them that!). The reason for the fun look is that my hair turns into a knotted mess on the back of my neck due to the backpack. Seems 2 ponytails are the best remedy (thanks to Besi from Bavaria for the idea!), as a single ponytail hits the backpack. Today you may notice a very impressive 80's look - the one sided pony tail. This is due to the fact that in the midst of all the fun yesterday, I lost a ponytail holder.
Just when I think I'm doomed to this look for the rest of the trip, the Camino delivers ;)
I found a nice park to rest at which had a number of statues. One was a very pretty statue with a woman covering one eye. On top if the statue was rock that was holding a hair tie... that matched mine... exactly! (Ok, you may think that it's gross to take the tie, but you have no idea the standards that I am living with as a pilgrim - this is probably the cleanest thing I've done all week! ;). I'm delighted with the find and am happy to be back to 2 ponies (it's the little things).
Ok - on to other highlights: Left Porrino - yeah! (The area from Tui through Porrino was not my favorite, but once into Mos, it became lovely!!). Followed the Roman Road for most of the day. Enjoyed my first bocaletto for lunch - yum!!
Arrived at the albuerge after many others (leaving at 10 didn't help matters), so got a top bunk (again!). Luckily, it was on a wall and by the window.
I met Tanja (pronounced Tanya) from Austria in the ladies room, and she invited me to dinner with her group. I joined and met Giovanni from Italy, Rolf and his daughter Isabella from Germany, Martin from Bavaria, (which the Germans will say is a separate country and language, so I say Bavaria vs Germany here - ha ;). You will hear about this group again.... I'll just leave it at that for now ;)
Ran into familiar faces from other stops throughout the evening (as you often leapfrog each other, or stay a separate places in the same towns sometimes) - it was like a reunion, and was fun catching up with each other's stories and experiences since we last saw each other.
