Hello from lovely Thousand Oaks, California! I just finished rereading my last blog posting and realized how much has happened in a week! Let's see, Wednesday I had rehearsal all day, and the ensemble joined me in the afternoon. It was nice to finally get a feel for blocking and have some support from more of the cast. Thursday we had a tasty Thanksgiving meal at Marmalade Cafe in Santa Barbara. We had a huge table in a private room, with made for a nice family feel for the fifteen of us who ate together.
Friday we traveled to Modesto in the morning and had an evening show. The drive North was beautiful with vineyards and farmland as far as the eye could see. Saturday I had my tech/put-in with the full cast in the afternoon and then my first performance was that evening. I have to admit, it is HARD to be a replacement. Rehearsing without the cast and on the road is not easy. Going into the show a week and a day after I joined the cast, having only had 5 days of rehearsal was the scariest experience of my professional career. All in all the show went fine. There were no major issues other than my uncertainty with the choreography, and at least I had the ability to keep drilling it on my own. Sunday we had a matinee and then traveled to Thousand Oaks in the evening. Erin, the girl I replaced, watched the show from the house on Sunday, so it was the first show where I was responsible for making sure I had the right costumes on in the right amount of time. Again, things ran fairly smoothly, and I know that Erin appreciated actually being able to watch the show.
Since we traveled on Sunday evening, we gained a day off "Golden Day" in Thousand Oaks Monday. I drove down to Disneyland with Jimmy, our wig master and Cat, our wardrobe mistress and we met up with my friends Ashleigh and David Nestor. Ashleigh is a parade performer in the park, and was able to sign all of us into the park for free. We had an incredible day at Disneyland. Highlights included performing in Tiana's Showboat Jubilee wearing choir robes and shaking tambourines, watching Ashleigh in the Christmas parade, and watching the fireworks at the end of the evening, along with riding as many rides as we could.
The rest of this week has flown by. Thursday Ashleigh and David came up and saw the show, and it was really the first time I felt confident and enjoyed myself. Right now I'm between shows and tomorrow we also have a double. Monday we travel to Vegas and then Tuesday continue on to our last week before Christmas break performing in Salt Lake City.
