Hi y'all from Savannah, Georgia. This past week has been lovely due to the influx of sunshine in all of our lives.Savannah is just our latest stop in the sunny South.A week ago the entire tour flew from Las Vegas, Nevada to New Orleans, Louisiana to begin the Southeast portion of our tour. Our travel day was slightly more exciting then we intended, as we were delayed leaving Vegas and almost missed our connection in Denver, CO.Luckily since we were traveling with a large group, United held our plane and we made it to New Orleans only a bit behind schedule. That evening a bunch of us went out and explored Bourbon Street. For a Tuesday evening, the place was hopping.I can't imagine what it must be like during Mardi Gras.
Wednesday we drove from New Orleans to Lafayette, Louisiana. There we performed to a packed crowd and I got my first taste of a King cake. From Lafayette we headed to Florida, playing in Panama City, Niceville, Ft. Pierce and Sarasota.Highlights of our Florida shows include playing our smallest venue to date in Ft. Pierce, visits from my friend Lindsay, a bunch of Fort Myers people and Grandma Lynne, and playing the delightful yet slightly maze-like "purple cow" in Sarasota.Of course I took every opportunity I got to enjoy the sun and the beach.
Yesterday we made the trek up to Savannah and partook in some incredible southern cooking at Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons restaurant in honor of Ashtia's birthday.Let me just say that I'm convinced they put crack in their fried chicken and an entire stick of butter in each small piece of butter cake (which may actually be true). All of the food was really tasty and it was nice to get a large group together for dinner.Last night I spent some time downloading ipod walking tours from Geogad.com, and this morning and early afternoon I took myself on both the Eastern and Western Savannah walking tours. This proved to be a great solution since I still got to explore and learn about Savannah without forking over $25.00 for a trolley tour.Tonight we perform at the civic center here and tomorrow we head to Athens, GA.
