Greetings from the charmingly tacky Hooters Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Here I was under the mistaken assumption that it doesn't rain much in the desert. And yet, The Wedding Singer tour's been lucky enough to spend two separate rainy days in Vegas.Don't worry; we haven't let the crummy weather dissuade us.Earlier this evening April, Adam and I met up with Kaitlynn and Jordan Bluth for a delicious Bellagio buffet dinner. There is nothing like great company and great food.Since dinner, I've been enjoying the ambiance of my hotel room, fake palm tree and all.
When last I wrote, we were finishing up performances in Eugene, Oregon and headed to Boise, Idaho.Let me reiterate that even though we had grey weather in Oregon, the natural beauty of the state was amazing. The drive to Boise was also beautiful, in a stark and extreme way.The immense expanse of land juxtaposed with the snow capped mountains made a beautiful backdrop for our trip.I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised with Boise. We stayed at The Grove Hotel downtown, right in the middle of lots of restaurants and shopping areas. Our venue was nice and spacious and the shows were well received. One highlight of our time in Boise was a trip to The Pie Hole, a famous by-the-slice pizza joint in town, for a tasty piece of pizza, a side salad and a soda for about $6.00.
We left Boise headed to Butte, Montana.Since it was quite a haul, we stopped for a night in Idaho Falls. Thanks to George and Matt for working in a trip to the laundry mat that evening.Once again the drive provided beautiful views of wide, open spaces and white mountains. Our performance in Butte was my first experience with very a minimal set. After re-spacing the large group numbers, the show went off pretty smoothly. An interesting tidbit about Butte: there is a huge glowing statue of the Virgin Mary on top a mountain that overlooks the town.
The following day we began out trek to Reno, Nevada.Again we took two days to make the trip, this time stopping over night in Twin Falls, Idaho. There is a gorgeous canyon at the edge of town that I was interested in exploring, but the rainy, cold weather coupled with a raging cold limited my activities to running errands and watching Battle Star Galactica 2.5.Our drive to Reno the next day was truly uneventful. As far as I could tell, Nevada as a state does not offer much beyond Reno and Las Vegas. While the desert and mountains were expansive, they were not as picturesque as similar Arizona or California landscapes.
Prior to our shows in Reno, I had never been to that portion of Nevada.I think the best comparison I could make is that Reno is to Las Vegas as Atlantic City is to Las Vegas. We stayed at Circus Circus, which was a fairly nice casino. Our first evening most of us explored the various entertainment options available to us.I had some pretty good sushi, took in a few free circus shows and watched cast and crew members play blackjack and roulette. The next day, Friday we only had a night show, so I spent most of my day itemizing my taxes. The weekend was pretty full with double shows both days. One highlight of the weekend was a tasty bowl of Pho (pronounced Fah) at a Vietnamese restaurant across from the casino.
I hope you enjoyed catching up; I'll write again soon as I am already 5 days behind.
