It took A long year to get here but this years 2015 Fins & Skins 7th annual trip is just about to come to a close. We had a slightly smaller group this year than years past but it didn't stop us from the usual activities. Three of the groups showed up bright and early on the 27th and went straight to work. This year we incorporated the brand-new Mountain Rambler brewery in the city of bishop. It was straight from the brewery up to intake 2 and Sabrina to throw some flies on the water. Monday we hit rock creek lake early in the morning and had lunch in Mammoth as we visited our old faithful mammoth brewery. The afternoon consisted of fishing up at the higher lakes outside of mammoth before returning to camp for our dinner and camp fire festivities. The group switched it up this year and decided to golf Bishop earlier in the week saving Mammoth for the full group on Thursday. The last of the group came in early morning Wednesday weary and tired but ready to go. We shot right up to convict Lake which was the best producer last year, this year not so much. Thursday was the day we had all been waiting for, golfing in Mammoth as a group. Much to our dismay me there was a storm coming in. Before canceling we waited as long as we could. Half the group went fishing the other shooting. We constantly looked to the north to monitor what the sky looked like. The closer it got to tee time the darker the sky got. Sometime around 11 we knew we had to call it off and decide to do something different. The decision was that the group would golf Bishop country club today and leave Mammoth for another year. By Friday half of the group had left. For those fins and skins members who stayed through the week the fishing gods smiled upon them. Friday was the best fishing day of the week. The group went up to Sabrina and immediately hooked up! Most of the group Limited out and a couple came close to double limits. It was like blackjack at the palace on Thursday night, everybody wins! The day has been crisp and windy but the sun has been out. Temperatures range from 41 at the lakes to 70 in the campground. All in all the weather for the week is been outstanding and it has made for an enjoyable trip. This week has gone so fast it's hard to believe that another week long trip is behind us. Most of us will go home either tomorrow or Sunday and will immediately look forward to next years trip. Next year we will also add a cooking competition to the week of events. Speaking of events I want to make sure I throw a shout out to BL and RG for winning this years annual horseshoe tournament. I also want to mention BB for winning the closest to the pin Thursday night shootout contest, he was the big winner. Please take a look at all of the photos that I have posted for this years Fins & skins trip. I hope that when you look at them you see how important the week is for all of us and how enjoyable it is. Although I know each of us miss our families we sure appreciate the time away to unwind and relax and we couldn't do it without the support of our families at home, thank you very much. See you all next year!
