We stayed at the Hotel Novotel at Charles de Gaulle airport for our two nights. The entrance to the hotel is literally part of the metro station, so that was very convenient.
Mental status check - we are both very tired. We have enjoyed the trip very much but are ready to be back on U.S. soil. We don't have much tourist energy left to give, and we both kind of smell, but that is due to the fact that washing out clothes in sinks in Ireland didn't work very well because they couldn't dry....we were moving around too much from hotel to hotel.
We tool the metro back into Paris and headed for the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise. This is an enormous cemetery in Paris where a lot of famous people have been buried and was said to be beautiful and old. I love cemeteries for their creep factor, and I was primarily looking for some good photo shots to enlarge and hang in our house. The cemetery was indeed enormous. We picked up a map that also listed all of the popular burial plots. That seemed strange. I wanted to find the sites for Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Chopin and George Seurat among others. Mission accomplished. The cemtery was beautiful and I'm glad we went. I think Scott was ready to walk out into traffic by the time we were done, but he was a trooper and I did get some good shots. We jumped on the train and headed back to our hotel. All we wanted to do was sleep and get on the plane...so that's what we did.
First European trip in the bag!
