Our last stop… Cancun… Well I spent the bus ride there from Playa nearly asleep! Matt was great and helped pack my bags, carry them, and book all the tickets.. lucky or I never would have gotten there! The bus ride was an hour and a half or so, and not too long later we were in a taxi on the way from the bus terminal to find out Resort! Matt hadn't even looked it up online so we were both pretty excited to see what it was like.
The drive there was in itself like a dream. Even in my hungover state I couldn't believe what I was seeing! There was resort after resort after resort. All of them on the beach with views of the beautiful Caribbean ocean, and all the resorts were the biggest things I had ever seen! We turned out in our place and it was beautiful… they took our bags up to the room for us and we found our huge room with a beach view which we had then for 3 nights! We could see right down to the pool and the ocean, we had an ice machine on our floor. We then went exploring a bit (or I did while Matt slept for a while cos he was still sick) and I checked out the shopping to do there (yes inside the resort!) and I checked out the three different places you could eat there! It was crazy.
Over the next few days we ate so much amazing food! The buffet in the morning would have been amazing but it was lost on us cos I don't eat a lot for breakfast and cos Matt was sick he didn't eat much too. It was great to just see though cos id never seen anything like it before! We spent a lot of the 4 days there just cruising around in the pool while swimming up to the 'swim up bar' and ordering many strawberry margaritas which you can drink while swimming around in the pool! We checked out the jet skis but the water was really choppy the whole time and windy down there so we didn't actually go in the water there the whole time! The pool though was great. Matt was convinced that the water was cooler in the shade… but he couldn't convince me of that!
One day we went into the tourist part and got HOUNDED by the people trying to sell us stuff 'come in and check out our crap' is what they would say! We didn't like it but Matt did a FANTASTIC job at bargaining them all down all the time. He got my genuine leather cowboy boots which are amazingly comfortable down from $350 AUS to $150 AUS! Definitely worth every cent too. We checked out the main strip of town… which looked just like America… not too exciting… we wanted to see the real Mexico and were already sick of them all speaking English and had had enough of the 'touristy' part! So we got a taxi driver to take us to a market where all the Mexicans go. this was HEAPS better and great to sit at and hear the Spanish again, we saw a few touros there but it just felt like we were actually in Mexico again which was a relief!
We also went out for a few awesome dinners - at 4 and 5 star places. I was shocked that there were so many waiters to look after us, and that there was someone whose job it was simply to give you towels in the toilets (!!!!). Matt seemed used to it so he must be much more worldly than I am cos I was completely shocked. We ate lobster and the most amazing coconut crusted prawns. In one place they even gave us free fairy floss before we left! We were so completely full though that we couldn't eat another thing so it was wasted… fun fun fun though!
Matt had had an incident on the first day in which the cleaning lady came in without knocking while he was in there! We had 'do not disturb' on for the rest of the time so we didn't realise that they come in at night. The last night we must have forgotten the sign and they came in and pulled down the beds, put on music, and put chocolates on our pillows! Again… unrealistic for me!
The last day we spent simply lying around the pool and drinking and eating which was great. We had a buffet where the chef cooks whatever seafood you want and we continually went up there for ages and just got really really tiny amounts every time to take full advantage of this amazing food and eat as much great stuff as possible! I really have never eaten such amazing seafood as I had in the whole time in Mexico… amazing stuff.
