So Wednesday we got ready to go to Copacobana only a 3 hour bus ride. Seb helped me pack cos i could still hardly move and we got the bus which was relatively easy. I wanted to die on the bus though it was horrible.. very lucky it was only 3 hours long!
At one stage we ended up with all the locals off the bus and the tourists going... this isnt it... we arent here... what is going on! Eventually we worked out that the people had to go on one boat, and the bus with the bags had to go on another.. crazy.. but we got there!
We got in and poor seb had to carry my bag as well as hers... I couldnt function with it unfortunately! Lucky it was downhill. In any case we picked the first hostel which we say from the lonely planet guide and headed in not caring how much it cost or anything but that it needed to be on the bottom floor! Seb ate dinner... I got to eat another 3 salada things which is the first thing i had eaten in 2 days. We both went to bed very early for the second night in a row, seb was getting sick too after 2 enourmous nights out partying so we were in bed by 8pm that night.
We woke up today and organised our tour to Isla de Sol - the island of the sun. We wanted to go to the north which is what everyone had recommended but we had missed the boat and the only way to get there was to do a "moderately hard" 3 hour hike from the south to the north. Needless to say neither of us was going to do more than get off the boat and go to somewhere to stay, let alone do a hike!
So we headed out on our boat at 1:30... these boats are so slow its insane. They hardly move!!! So we got to Isla de Sol an hour and a half later... and me and seb are scared as all we can see is a massivly steep climb when we get off the boat. We get off and follow this little boy who spoke AMAZING english.. must have been only 5 or so, these ladies were trying to sell us stuff and me and Seb were both like.. no, gracias, no gracias haha till the little boy explained it was entry to the island and we HAD to pay it. There are little things like these everywhere where noone tells you you have to pay it until the last moment! Scammers!
The little boy is like "its a half an hour walk" we werent happy, but then we realised we had to go STRAIGHT UP the cliff face up stairs. So i couldnt even carry my day pack, seb ended up having to carry it for me. The little boy must have thought i was so lazy! Everyone had trouble getting up it cos its so steep, and its over 4000m high so its a climb anyway. I was doubled over at one stage hardly breathing and these ladies are like "seniorita seniorita" im like.. i cant even look at them let alone try to speak spanish to them at that moment! They were lovely though and gave me some herb thing to rub between my hands which would help with the altitide. Everyone is very nice to me here, especially since ive been looking like ive been about to die over the past few days!
So on this island are some Inca ruins and we just couldnt do any of that stuff cos we couldnt walk. We did manage though to walk a bit higher than our hostel (it was amazing we could gather the energy to do that!) and seb ate some dinner while we checkout out the amazing view from so high up of the snow capped mountains and BEAUTIFUL lake Titicaca. Its an amazing sight and a huge lake. Absolutely stunning to see.
We watched the sunset, and even got up early to watch the sunrise as well over the lake. We were glad we went even though it was not much fun walking up the stairs! Must have taken us 15 mins to get down and 45 to get up. I was happy to see all the well touros struggling up though!
So now we are waiting for another Cama bus to take us over the border to Peru to Cuzco. Hopefully the bus is a good one - should be as its the best you can get so fingers crossed. Still cant upload any photos but are hoping to soon. The Americans we know both got their cameras stolen on the bus to cuzco, but me and seb always have our stuff locked up so fingers crossed we will be ok!
2 weeks in Cuzco with a trip to the Amazon in the middle before Machu Piccu so we should settle down in Cuzco so that i can recover a bit hopefully. Fingers crossed we get into the Loki there!
