We got into Cuzco at 4am - GREAT and had to find our way to the hostel. the taxi driver ripped us off massively charging us $20 soles but given we had just turned down an unofficial taxi, and it was 4am in the morning, and we had hardly slept, i think we were going to pay whatever to get there.
we got to loki and were first on the waiting list, they told us if we wanted a room now we could have one, but we would have to pay for the night before, we were povos of course and said no.. and could we just check in at 1pm instead (you can use all the facilities while you wait so it was fine). They were like fine, no worries so we left our bags and hung out with some other mates we met for 8 hours until it was check in time. this was hell cos all we wanted was a shower and a sleep! we did learn a new card game though called s***head which is VERY fun and extremely happy to have learnt a new card game.... that never happens!
so at 12, then 1, then 1:30 they are like ´come back in half an hour´ we decided to go out for lunch with the mates we had met previously and hung out with in la paz as one of them was leaving for Ecudor. great fun except i think we chose the most touristy place and we were bugged by every SA person trying to sell stuff walking by every 30 second which sucked!
after this the english girl we met helped me buy a prepaid sim card for my phone... so glad she was there, i NEVER would have been able to have the conversations she had in spanish haha to activate it too! the guy in the shop told us off for not trying to speak spanish but that would have been hard! anyway so we got the sim card and a recharge card wooohooo! went back and no... they dont have a room for us! we decided to stay out all night and not sleep that way we could check in the morning and not need a room. i was fretting that we both would need to stay on the floor somewhere and get thrown out onto the street... lucky these girls in the room with the guys we are mates with had a friend who didnt turn up so we took their bed and i signed in, so then at least we had one bed to share!
we went out and partied all night, danced to the rock band which was on... singing ´Amarican Woooman´ haha was hilarious, had a few tequila sunrises for $8 Soles which is about $4 AUS so not bad, played alot of pool, much better pool table here! and then danced the night away. i went to bed early cos i was stuffed, and we pulled my wristband off so seb could go out with the mates we had met. she came home, and the girls in the dorm room we were in came home later, they seemed nice at the time, knowing our story that seb and i didnt have a bed and were sharing etc, and then the other guys came home a bit later.
The stupid girls woke everyone up at about 7am and started talking... big no no in a shared dorm room! They complained to reception about people getting home late, about me taking the bed even though they said i could have it, about seb staying in the bed with me, which was stupid cos we explained the situation! anyway so i went to reception in the morning to say my wristband had fallen off and i needed a new one and they told me off for heaps of things, running off before they had shown me my room ( i got my room at about 9pm the previous night when i had already been drinking!) and about seb staying with me... im like no she checked in this morning.... she was just napping before we check into the new room... totally not true and they knew it cos we had gone off at them the following day about us not getting the room they promised us!
very funny and lots of crazy stuff. best part of the day today was the strawberry frappes and the amazing place for food we found called jacks... yummmmmm lunch and tea there today!
cuzco is lovely and warm, the perfect place for us to hang for 2 weeks before the inca trail. its hilly here so we are hoping to do a bit of walking during the day to slightly prepare for it, but should be ok. our next plans are to maybe do white water rafting, book the amazon, and just chill out and drink frappes in the sun in cuzco for a while. great fun here regardless of the craziness from the ´party hostel for singles´ which is cuzco loki as i have dubbed it. its been crazy with the sleazy guys but the fun friends we have made. makes it all worthwhile and its great just having a wikkid bar in the hostel so we dont have to go anywhere at night!
Anyway ages here to go and loving it all so far!
