So it has been a while and hopefully i can remember everything i want to write about La Paz! We went to the witches market which was meant to be full with dead lamas and stuff, things are slowly becoming more touristy around south america so we saw a few but not many, mostly alpaca clothes and wikkid soft blankets and stuff. Pity we cant buy anything, cos buying stuff means we have to carry it!
I did buy one alpaca jumper though which is amazingly soft, light, and WARM. I also bought some happy pants which are brightly coloured and very very cute. Yes they make me feel happy wearing them haha. Feel like im wearing pajamas, its SWEEET. Everyone here wears them around though so its great.
Anyway so glad we came to south america when we have so that we still get some of the ruggedy stuff, the stuff that isnt touristy.
So after that we checked into our "matrimonial room" me and seb were sharing a double bed because we wanted our own bathroom... which worked out extremely well for us in the end!
After the witches market i was tired from the bus and night out previously so seb headed to some other market with some people we had met in potosi and ran into again.
I had a plan of staying and having a sleep for the hour we were waiting... for the WRESTLING! Apparently once a month they have midgets but you dont know which Sunday it will be on so we hoped against all hope that there would be some this Sunday!
So i was waiting for Seb outside and she was really late cos she had gone into the market and the market was so insane that she couldnt find her way out! Anyway so i grabbed a map of where we had to go which the shuttle bus was taking the rest of the Loki crew and waited for about 45 minutes for sebba. Then we managed to find a little mini bus thing which they have millions of around La Paz, they drive around and yell out "one boliviano to the city!" in spanish of course, aiming at the locals really. We hopped on and paid 3 bolivianos each instead of 30cents each cos we were confused and gave them the map of where we wanted to go. We had been told it should take us there. After them speaking in spanish LOTS and some other local telling us for some reason it was CLOSE, the mini bus turned around and started heading back where we came from, empty and we needed to wait for MORE locals to get in, obviously enough to fill the bus and make it viable for the driver to get to the city. Finally we start moving and the chick starts taking one boliviano off each passenger, then tells us she wants more from us! We are like por que? Why? And she goes off on a tangent we dont understand so we just kept saying why? Why? Why? We have paid 3 and they paid 1! Eventually she gave up knowing she wouldnt get any more out of us... stupid tourists hahahaha.
So the wresting was good, same thing over and over really for 3 hours though (after we finally got there!) we met up with the rest of the loki crew and a group of people, two english and two americans who we had also met along our travels. There were women in traditional dress and men wrestling, very very fake and would have only been good for about half an hour i think. Plus... devestatingly... no midgets!!!
We went back that night and drank lots at the Loki hostel. Its a great hostel with oxygen bar, wikkid bar to drink in with a pool table (however crappy and small the pockets were) with food to buy, happy hours and stuff. During the night we saw some people come in in snow gear, turns out they had done the worlds most dangerous road and there was a snow storm on the way back. I knew then that i probably wouldnt be able to do it cos of weather and stuff which was a bummer but these things happen i guess.
So a good night with all the people we had met! Sebba had a huge night with the gang but after the bar closed at Loki i was out for the night haha. Meant i had the double bed to myself for most of the night though!
We woke up (me and Damien one of the Americans after about 8 hours sleep, seb after 2) and decided we should head to San Pedro prison to see what it was like. Not much exciting going on, apparently cos it is under investigation from some tourist who took in a camera and filmed all the bribery etc which goes on in there. So we saw the outside and all the people who went in but that was about it. The signs in Loki - one was "please dont get into any situations where you may come into contact with the police force here"... great so dont get arrested - i decided to report my stuff being stolen in peru instead! And "loki recommends you do not visit san pedro prison" so we stayed a while away from both during our time there!
After the prison we went and had lunch at a nice restaurant... yes a NICE one... one which gave me FOOD POISONING... it wasnt even food off the street, just tandoor chicken! Bummer. No more pollo for me i think... Anyway so this night and the next day is written off the record due to me being in our double bed for the entire time. Lucky we had a private bathroom is all i can say!
Oh and we tried out the oxygen bar too, i had strawberry and spearmint oxygen haha very funny. Not very exciting though except when the chick did it wrong and the peach stuff went all over seb...
So we managed to get back our entire deposit for the flights for the amazon tour which was good, and we have changed our plans to skip some places so that we dont have spend as much time in buses thank god. Not a good thing when im sick! I did get to meet the owner though when in the middle of the day i was searching for a bucket in my pajamas haha... he was so nice to me he nearly made me cry haha, great person to have running a tourist hostel that big and well known i must say.
Next was Copacobana...
