Kim's Travels
1030 - Hello! Am very excited. Have finally arrived in our last stop; THAILAND! Havn't actually seen anything thing yet as we arrived late last night and have only just got up but am off to see the Khao San Road and to plan the next two weeks. So just to let you know I havn't been abducted by ladyboys or run over by a tuk tuk. Will update EVERYTHING as soon as...
1820 - ARGH! Thailand is crazy! This morning we set off for a wander to check everything out. The Kaosan Rd is full of street stalls selling everything from jewellery and clothes to fish cakes and banana fritters. Because there are so many food stalls here the streets are full of lots of different 'aromas'! After wandering for a bit we took a tuk tuk to the Grand Palace - now that was an experience and a half! The drivers are absolutely crazy; they completely ignore zebra crossings, they drive across the street (not down it!) and are generally just a bit scary. But it was good fun though! And it cost us just 50 baht. The Grand Palace was pretty cool, and huge too! I had to wear a rather fetching shirt and long skirt to cover myself up which did actually make me look... ridiculous. To say the least. Anyway, the place was spectacular - so many different, intricate details and colours everywhere. They take the monarchy really seriously here; to the extent that we're not allowed to mention it and there are posters for sale everywhere with pictures of the king. So, after that we took another stroll along the streets (dont ask which ones!), looking at all the mini market stalls, trying thai fish cakes (phoar, hot!) and banana fritters etc... Before we knew it we were outside Wat Po - a temple here. So we took a look inside there too. It was pretty awesome as well, only the pictures can describe it really - and even they don't do it justice. They had a huge reclining Buddha there which was massive - one of his feet was bigger than me! After yet more walking and sweating (gross I know but true - its 35 degrees!) we got a tuk tuk back to Khaosan Rd for lunch. We both decided on Pad Thai (of course) and a watermelon shake - both we're delicious and came to 300 baht altogether (4 pounds), and that was expensive! After lunch I decided to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure which was bliss! Then we booked our trekking in Chang Mai which we leave for tomorrow :) I can't wait we're going to be staying with hill tribes, riding elephants and trekking (not so sure about the last bit but we'll see!) Anyway, I'm sitting in a cafe right now, drinking watermelon crush and waiting for the pounding rain to finish so until next time ... sawatdi !
