Kim and Hayley's Excellent Adventure
Dudes!!!!
its been a while!.....................right o think we left at thee start of our epic adventure in new zealand......left auckland on monday about a month ago to begin our own 'endless summer'................AWESOME!
met our surfy instructor dude, Kane, and two other english chicas, pam and rachel who we would spend thee rest of the 5days surfing with. made our way up to the northlands...towards a place called ninety mile beach........c.c.crazeeeeeeee tho as its actually only 86kilometers...or some ting like dat.....anyways had an awesome trip surfing constantly around the top bit of new zealand.....shipwreck bay or 'shippies' is a wicked little spot....we had to drive over the rocks to get to it...and all the locals get other on quad bikes...revving it up over the sand dunes...soooo cool......it was like the ending of the'goonies' my favourite film of all time!!! didnt see sloth tho.....................anyways...we had such an awesome time that we decided that we would do it again the next week!......................back to our backpackers in auckland again for the weekend but this time no late nights as surfing had completely knackered us out!.........aucklands a nice enough city but at thee end of the day all we wanted to do was get back out to the beach and surf again.....yep.....we is defo hooked now..........watch out slater!......er hem....not quite!
back up north for another week of total wipe outs yee harr!!...............this time we shared our beasty 4x4...with a english chica georgie...canadian chica jess...and thee biggest german this side of thee equator, 'alex the giant'.
first day out and caught a blooming awesome wave....soooo excited didnt see zee german coming straight into me.....all i saw was his board crossing mine and wooooooooaaaaahh!!! both wiped out MASSSIVELY!!! and his board took both my shins out...completely battered! so for the rest of the trip i had to strap a pair of socks to my legs like padding so i could still surf!! yeah....looked a right wally!
had a few other minor injuries...like knackered toe...dodgy little finger....also wrong knees....was getting a wee bit suspicious as had bought a fishhook bone necklace carved by the maoris which they have worn for centuries....to protect them......especially over water......had it blessed by a giant maori before i came on the trip............and since had all these stooooopid injuries..........everyone else on the trip said that he probably cursed it not blessed it....grrrrrrrrreat! still cant take it off tho or its bad luck.....untill it falls off.........so just hanging on in there untill it falls off or i fall off.....a cliff....or something..........
good trip tho.............we had a breakdown of our beast just as night was falling and we were on our way back on the longest beach ever! we had to fight the darkness....and the increasing tide....or we may had to have slept on the beach......so it looked like the radiator was bust as it was leaking.......we lost the cap....and all of us were clambering to find it in the dark with no torches just cameras...phones....lighters..............yes......lighters! Dont ask! then we stuffed it with a teatowel which actually worked in our favour as the engine didnt over heat as much.......letting us make more distance on the beach.........zee ever efficient german.....kept clock of our time ratio to water in the radiator......and found us many freshwater streams to refill our bottles.....our next obstacle was to get past a bluff ( a load of rocks that divided the beach in two parts when the tide was in at a certain level).....................so we all abandoned our beasty ship and let captain Kane do a stunt worthy of steve mc queen.....over the bluff...............Kane the legend...made it and we got off the beach to eventually find another route off the beach and head back to our camp......only to come across a blooming locked gate....but our little english chica unlocked ( did try to ask what exactly was her line of work back home.....) the gate whilst being almost maulled by a pack of angry dogs......then we found a house lit up but no one in we had to 'borrow' their watering can and water to get us back.......oops! Finally we made it back to camp ALIVE! and that was thee end of our bogas journey!
had thee best waves of our lives......hay is gonna be a longboarding pro.....whilst im gonna do the retro short board thang......yeah! we is gonna be pros baby!!! ha ha ha!!!!
back at our backpackers in auckland....again.....we are now 'thee locals'......and off we plod on monday to our kiwi bus....where we meet our driver Poncy..........so called because he has a furry purple pencil case........yeah....dosen't take that much to pick up a stoooooooopid knickname over here. and off we go on our whisltle stop magical tour of new zealand........on the green machine.
first place we stayed was coromandel....at a very nice hostel and got to know everyone on the bus......over a bottle of wine of course! yeah so majority of the passengers are about 19yrs gap year before uni.................skool bus! actually as it turns out me and hay are considered thee nuttiest peeps around! not much change there then.....tell us something we dont know.....
next morning......we are eating toast and on time........next we are being shouted at by the driver poncey.......for being late...which we weren't......"SO UNFAIR!!" now we really do feel at skool! so now we understand how this bus works......dont be late in the morning. end of.
on the way we stopped at various beautiful scenery to take photos....japanese stylee....felt like real tourists!
went to mercury bay.....cathedral cove...awesome rock formations....hot water beach which where funny enough if you dig the sand in some places you can have a hot bath....it burns your feet tho!.................then we headed to rotorua where its pretty stinky.....is a geothermal site so loadsa mudpools and stinky geysers......we went to the Tamaki village which is a recreation of a typical northern maori village before the arrival of the europeans.......awesome.....or "sweet as bro!"............really cool evening of ceremonies....dances....demonstrations of original crafts...and the hangi.....which is the process of the maori traditional meal.....heat up aload of rocks on a fire and then dig a hole to place them in then stack up the food oon top.....is like a pressure cook...........oh my god! whatta feeeast!!
next we visited waitomo............famous for its glow worm caves and black water rafting....hay already done this on her last trip....and i have done loads of this stuff back home....decided to save myself for my skydive....! woo woo!!
arrive in taupo.............oh my god!!! totally awesome for the fact that me and others did a 12,000 ft freefall for only 150 dollars..which is thee cheapest ever im convinced!!! this about 50 squid or less!!!! how FRICKING AWESOME?????!!!!! er........yeah! NARLY!!!!!!!!
next place is tongariro national park...........wow! soooooooooo beautiful...is one of thee top walks in the world apparently....which we missed out saving it for next time! so onwards we travelled to river valley............oh yeah! in the middle of no where amazing place...got poncey the driver totally drunk where he was left singing at the top of his voice to bon jovi....earphones and in underpants.......screaming "im an ANIMAL!!!!" words cannot describe................hilarious! so this is obviously the beginning of thee abuse of poor ol poncey...as it turns out its his last trip on the kiwi bus so there are many more stories just like this one!!!!
anyway a heavy night at thee wooden lodge....and we are all tucked away in a huge waltons family style bunk bed..........early to rise to start an awesome day of white water rafting...................................dudes................................................................was awesome ........................then....................oh my god.....................thought hay was gonna drown................
