Hello,
We're currently en route to Chiang Mai after a one night stop in Phitsanulok and then 2 nights in Sukhothai. Phitsanulok is pretty dull but is the stop you need to get off at to visit Sukhothai. Still interesting to see a smaller Thai town.
I haven't heard of too many people visiting Sukhothai but they are really missing out. If you are not short on time in Thailand it is a must see. 70 km squared of national park full of Wats(temples) and Buddhas in the forest and mountains. It's like an undiscovered world in some parts its so remote and quiet. We had bikes to were worn out from the cycling but a great way to get around. You could never walk it. The pictures will follow and they do it more justice but we thought it was amazing and well worth the detour.
We were staying about 4 km outside of the old city ruins so got to cycle through proper Thai countryside as well. The people were really friendly here too, much more so than anywhere else up to now. The bugs get bigger the further away from the cities you go too, there were these huge dragon flies around the place - they were like bats they were so big. Anyway, thats the story - we're getting the train to Chiang Mai in a few hours and should be there this evening.
