Very very early wake up today at 8am, hostel stay was lovely, no noise, singing or dancing!
Headed to Apollo Bay for breakie to a nice cafè where I think we all have scrambles eggs with bacon! Delicious!
Our first stop on Great Ocean Road was Gibsons steps, a great look out point but the actual steps were closed but a little gate didn't stop the 4 Irish from getting a better look! First view of if the 12 apostles!
Out next stop was at the apostles themselves, car park was thronged full and the day was as windy as anything I can remember. Still....great to the '12' apostles, of which about 6/7 are now standing! I think a new name is in order..maybe the 7 dwarfs or something!
We headed up the road a bit from the apostles to Loch Ard Gorge, great views again and took some nice pics. Apparently the area is known as ship wreck coast and actually named after ship wreck of the Loch Ard vessel.
After Loch Ard we headed to Cape Otway lighthouse which had excellent koala spotting areas. It did not take too long to find some hidden in the trees. Very cool and cute animals. Think we plan to visit the koala hospital in Brisbane so will get to hold one hopefully. After driving down road we had lots of 'koala' stops for pics and got quite close to them!
En route to tonight's bed in Lorne we had a quick stop off at Kennett River (for the obligatory photo!) and then took a short stroll to Sheoak falls, a waterfall hidden away about 500 meters from great ocean road.
We arrived back in Lorne and before checking into accommodation, we decided to to check out sights and sounds of Lorne...think it took us 6 minutes!
We checked in to our in the middle if trees and after a very quick trip to bottle shop, we were sitting on patio having drinks. It was a cold night but refreshing! We made a little friend..a lad about 3 from Germany called Bengt, it was possibly the cutest little person I have ever met, full of beans and although we didn't speak 1 word of the same language, we had fun playing with his little 'auto' :-)
We had a bit of dinner in Lorne hotel, which was quite nice (and a little bit of vino) before heading back through streets of Lorne making a mockery of their picturesque village!
Once back at hostel, someone had a brought idea to drink back in kitchen which had alcohol ban after 10am, AHEM Sinéad!) and we met a lad who claimed he had killed someone before, bit long winded but not sure if I believe him - but he did look like a f**king nutcase so I said I wouldn't question him! Sweet dreams (hopefully!!).
