9/2/2014 - later, later on….
Whilst having dinner at the Tea View Guest House I received a phone call from the Owner of the Sun Top (where we had stayed previously). He had found someone who wanted to share the cost to hire a car to travel to the South Coast - a German chap named Johannes.
Johannes subsequently rang and we agreed to jointly hire a Taxi to travel from Ella right down to pretty much the bottom of Sri Lanka at a beach-side town called Mirissa. Good news for us as it reduced our cost (Us two thirds / Johannes one third) plus we would get to see quite a lot of country-side south to Hambantota and then west along the coast through Tangalle and Matara to Mirissa - we expect it to be hot after our time in the hills. Off to bed we went, happy that this had been organised and we were now back on course to at least visit Galle before heading back to Colombo for the Navam Perahera Festival and, of course, Desley's birthday on the 16th.

Up early for breakfast at Tea View and a chat to the young German couple who had arrived the previous day. A car arrived around 8.00 am, driven by the Owner of Tea View - he is the Brother of the Owner of Sun Top. He gave us a lift back to Ella where we met up with Johannes. The hire Taxi (late model Nissan Sunny) arrived and we set off shortly thereafter.
Initially we spiralled down through the tea and forests before reaching the flat lands where we settled in for what turned out to be the five hour journey. On the way we saw a Mongoose cross the road as well as two good sized Water Monitor lizards. At one point there were signs up warning to look out for wild elephants - we only spotted some elephant dung on the road but no elephants unfortunately.
We arrived in Mirrisa at around 1.30 pm and spent a bit of time locating a place to stay. We are at a nice Guest House called the Mermaid Inn and Johannes is nearby in another Guest House that even he can't recall the name of at present.
Down to the beach went the three of us at it is very nice indeed. We had a late lunch in one beach-side spot and then later on moved on to another for a few beers whilst watching the sun set. We ended up having dinner there also.
Got a little lost going back to the Guest Houses but ended up having a very good night's sleep under the mosquito net with the fan on.

Woke early (unfortunately) and had a nice cup of tea provided by the Guest House. At 8.00 we met up with Johannes and had breakfast at a different Guesthouse nearby - there was a young German Family staying there who Johannes was able to chat with. They also spoke English so we could converse with them also. This only speaking one language is no good at all.
After breakfast (10.00 am-ish) Desley & I returned go our digs where I type this prior to going out searching for Wi-Fi. Johannes is having a look around Mirissa and the beach. We plan to meet up with him again for dinner on the beach.
Cheers
