I didn't think it was possible to have a more loathful experience than a dirty squat toilet in india but there was! We left camp at 10:20pm to make our way to the train station where Rach and I were heading off to Cochin (Kerala). It ran relatively well until boarding the train. The stations are crazy busy even at midnight! People sleeping everywhere, dogs and the smell of urine but after asking 4 people where we board, we were quickly rushed a board into any carriage. Walking through the carriages was hard enough with everyones feet hanging off the ends of all the sleeper bed but having a pack so full and with bongo drums and pillows hanging off it made it 10 times harder! I had sweat dripping off me. We walked through 2 carriages each with 72 people in them felt like i was inside a can of sardines! There was no room, my drums kept on hitting all the festy feet! Of corse by this stage i was really pissed off, Only to find our 'roller door' closed between carriages and to find it's opening in the morning! Where does that leave us sitting at midnight, sitting in a end carriage toilet on my bag until the train stops in the morning apparently, of course I am not ok with this and end up a tiny bit teary. Not a happy passenger!
Keep in mind i'm literally writing this as it happens! But the train manages to make a stop and we make an executive decision to get off and leg it up the platform to our right spot. And if we missed it then so be it, deal with it then! As i struggle to get my bag in the door Rach is behind me trying to board a moving train with her sack and the extra bag we have managed to fill! But we were lucky to make it on alive into what appeared luxurious 2AC curtained enclosure. My bed was still down as a seat and me trying to be considerate to our 'roomies' left it down and set up on and around my bag scrunched into a ball and tried drifting off to sleep and tried to not pay attention to the deep breathing/snoring/sleep apnea gentleman sound asleep next to me, because by that stage I appreciated where I was.
Now thats leaving camp with a bang, and camp was certainly an experience! Met some fabulous people and learnt alot about life! Volunteering as I mentioned in my last blog was really quiet moving which was expected spending time in the slums, but even chats with some staff!!
Also visited the spice plantation, elephant rides, lots of Italian, hired a scooter (certainly an experience), a few markets, 'have you ever' game, beaches and of course bar crawls even though I seemed one of the few crawlers! One of the nights after the black & white party (yes, I was offended) we set our selves up outside with plenty more beer and a prank or two! We were thinking parent trap styles but really sucked! Managed to get some flower from the kitchen and not much more happened with that! Wrote a few bye cards to the coolcats we'll miss and left them 'love candy' at their doors! But I'm happy to say after all the train issues I'm happily showered and lying in our riverview hotel watching Packed to the Rafters eating vege burgers with Rach! Bliss.......
