Making it to Canacona, Goa was a challenge and a half!! Starting my day 2 hours earlier than anticipated was already telling me the kind of day I was about to have! I was under the impression of a 10:45am pick up to go to the airport from Delhi to Mumbai - then Mumbai to Goa! But nope 9am our driver was at reception of our 2 star hotel, so our breakfast plans soon changed to our last meal at our favorite place to eat (Fiesta) to hopefully finding something to eat at the airport! (not curry, my stomach was saying to eat something else)
So we hurried and got ready packed our packs and was on our way! Again swerving and safely making our way through the city of Delhi where road rules most certainly do NOT apply (just make sure you have a horn) we made it to the airport to really only Indian food as an option! I searched high and low for a packet of Lays salted chips and found nothing! I found a toasted veg wrap which I smelt and through away! So I thought plane food surely the trolly has some good snacks! Again very limited, cashews were my only option only to get them with chilli pictures all over them! And once again I just hoped Mumbai airport would have something! But same story nothing! Other than a 7up! So by the time I caught my next flight (delayed) a whole day at the airport or on a plane! We arrived in Goa, with a stench that lingered like sewer! By that stage I was passed hungry! We had a driver pick us up a 9pm and made it to what we thought was luxury,(over here expensive) beach hut right on the water with bathroom etc! We finally get here and its like a slapped together woodwork project like I was a a kid again that made cubby houses with my friends and it felt just as sturdy as they did! Except this was 5 meters in the air on palm tree stumps!!! I was not only horrified i was fearing for my life!! It was so wobbly and unsecure!! I really needed to wee and that was a step down from the tree house and felt even more flimsy than the first part!! Then as I flushed water sprayed all out the back and sides and I knew then it was time to leave as early as we could to find a new place! Mind you the guy who booked all our travels for india told us it was so amazing and if we wanted to stay longer let him know he will arrange it!! No thanks!.....
Morning couldn't have come quicker! Still eaten nothing at this stage we decided we were not eating here we had to find something else to eat and stay in! We walked along the beach looked in our lonely planet all the night before and tried to find this place called Ciarans (Lonely planets highly recommend beach huts) after walking back and forward we were kindly shown the way! It wasn't far away at all and it was Sooo nice! We were also lucky to get in! As they say we have to go through the trash to get to the treasure! And we get a whole week here before camp time....
