Then, I went to the Arenal Volcano since I was in Monteverde. It is located in the Alajuela Province, having a height of 5,437 feet. The volcano use to erupt, and even was the country's most active volcano, but is now resting after 43 years of frequently erupting. The last time it erupted was in 1963, destroying three villages, leaving 87 people dead. I went to see this volcano, but also to relax in the hot springs. Since there is geothermal activity beneath Adrenal, there are lots of hot springs. The hot springs also had an amazing view of the volcano. When I was at the hot springs, I had a very traditional casado. This is beans and rice, which are served with some sort of meat or fish and a salad, fried plantains, white cheese and a corn tortilla. After a late lunch, I went to go kayaking on Lake Adrenal. I explored the lake, seeing many beautiful sites and animals. I saw howler monkeys all along the shore, and many species of birds. I explored lagoons and coves, leaving me very tired after a long workout. I later had a dinner of arroz con pollo, which is rice and chicken served with veggies like camote, chayote, and yuca.
