The next day we left to go to the Barra Honda National Park. Costa Rica isn't well known for it's caves, but this is a must see! Located in the Tempisque Conservation Area lies on of Costa Rica's only subterranean parks. I went caving here, getting down with rope ladders, rock climbing, and belaying. The caves are made of soft limestone of ancient coral reefs forced upward by tectonic faults. It took 70 million years to form, which is quite fascinating! I decended 17 meters down, seeing the stalagmites and other formations. I decended again to the cavern sala de huevos fritos (fried egg cavern). The cavern had formations that looked like fried eggs, which was very interesting! After this, I went hiking in this national park. I went on different trails leading me through this tropical rainforest. I saw many animals like deers, coatis, agutis, anteaters and monkeys. After a long day of this, I just decided it was enough for now.
