Hey guys,
I can't believe it - in just one week, myself and the other 20 China vols will be on our way!! Selection, all the fundraising, the preparation, Training, more preparation, everything has led to this!
It doesn't seem like 11 months ago that I was first on Coll - already I have made some amazing memories, met absolutely fantastic people and I've not even left the UK yet!
Okay, by now, probably through my use of exclamation marks, you have realised that I am just a little bit excited. Of course I am! I am soon to embark on the greatest adventure of my life so far, with some of the best people I've met :P
The summer has absolutely flown by and I have (I think!) done just about everything I need to have done before I leave.
I have visited all my family to receive their well wishes for the next year. I have had all my vaccinations and health checks. I have started learning Mandarin, and cannot wait to learn so much more. I have sorted out my bank accounts and computer bits and pieces. I have (finally!!) packed my bags (see pic) - I knew it was going to be difficult, but it was impossible to fit everything I wanted into 25kg, and so quite a lot was sacrificed so that I could take the essentials - it was definitely a learning curve (thanks dad for the packing lesson :P). I have passed my driving test! (Today in fact, so glad that is ticked off my list before I go).
So now the real countdown begins - it's exciting and nerve-wracking in equal proportions, but I know that the China group is great, and that PT's support system is excellent, so I know I will be well looked after :)
I met up with China vol Reece (check my 'Other Blogs' page for his experiences in Fukang, Xinjiang) and we had a really good catch up, as we hadn't seen each other in Training. It made me feel slightly better to know how much more organised I seemed to be! (Sorry Reece :P)
This weekend I am really looking forward to. I am going out for a nice family meal on Friday night, for a multitude of reasons - my mum's birthday, passing my driving test, my exam results and me leaving. It should be a good time to just enjoy being with my family. And then on Saturday I am having my 'Leaving Do,' a chance to see all my friends who have supported me over this last year :) I think some of these 'farewells' might be harder than I am anticipating (I shall let you know if I cry...) Then a quick visit into my school on Monday - I am hoping to possibly set up a 'Pen-Pal Project' with one of my classes, I will let you know if this idea bears any fruit.
And then down to London on Tuesday!!
I do still have a few bits and bobs to do, and with only a week left, I really should get a move on! Next time I write will most definitely be whilst I am in my hotel room next Tuesday evening, so until then,
Zàijiàn x
