Hey all,
Thank you for coming to my blog. Over the next 2 years I will be keeping this blog about my experiences as a Project Trust (PT) Overseas Volunteer.
On the 8th Sept 2013 I arrived in the town of Oban, after two train journeys, and found my hostel for the night. It was a warm and friendly place, and I met a large group of the teenagers who would become my friends over the next week. Why was I in Oban you ask? I was on my way to the Isle of Coll, to undertake a four day selection course to become a Project Trust Volunteer.
We left for Coll early the next morning, catching the 8am ferry from Oban. After a three hour ferry journey we arrived on Coll and were collected by some of the friendly PT staff.
During our stay on Coll we lived with a host family, and took part in different, challenging activities. I had a great experience, trying many new things I never thought I would ever have the chance to do, including becoming a sheep farmer for an afternoon (see the picture), trying lobster and crab, and teaching a ten minute lesson to my peers, having had only 20 minutes warning! I made some great friends, who I will hopefully remain in contact with, and learnt a lot, especially about myself J I don't want to say too much about this week, as I don't want to give stuff away to anybody interested in going for selection next time.
After returning to Oban, and catching the train home I spent the next four days nervously waiting for my letter from Coll. On Thursday when I returned home from school, my mum told me 'there's a letter for you in the kitchen.' I can't remember the last time I moved so fast! Tearing open the envelope, I was so happy to discover I had been chosen as a volunteer for project Trust - to go and teach English in CHINA!!! I was really pleased, as China had been my number one choice on the form.
Now I just have to raise £5600 over the next 10 months, and I'll be on my way. But that's easier said than done, so I better get started!
