OH MY GOSH! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I have actually began a blog entry. It has been a crazy couple of weeks, hence my extreme lack of writing. I am really sorry. I kept meaning to do it, but just didnt really get there. But i'm here now, writing this. I'll start of with Scotland, seeing as that's where I left off.
So, after hanging out in Inverness I headed back to Edinburgh alone on the bus, which takes about 4 hours. Now, that might sound horrible but it was suprisingly enjoyable. It's a really pleasant bus trip, because you get to see so many of the different areas and towns of Scotland, as well as the snow covered mountains, jolly people wandering the streets etc..etc...
Checked into my hostel, was in a female dorm after my last traumatic experience and had a pretty uneventful night. The following morning I headed up the road to the 'Wild In Scotland' the tour office, and headed off on the first day of my four day tour. Had a lovely bunch of people- Reianna, who was an Australian girl working in Scotland, Jacqui, Janelle and Chris who were also Australians who were living it up in London, Grant who was Australian and.... well, he was from Newcastle. There were a few Germans, an Indian doctor... and thats all I can remember. And the tour guide, Danny, who was lovely. So we headed up Scotland in our little bus, stopping off at various locations, learning about Scottish history. Our tour guide was a really great storyteller. It snowed all of this day, which was pretty cool... literally. We saw the most photographed Castle in Scotland (theres a photo of me infront of it in the album) that has been in lots of movies and what-not.
That night we stayed in Skye, which is an island in the north of Scotland. We were right next to the Loch (a lake, really) and had a lovely first night having a few drinks, getting to know eachother and cooking tortillas. Stayed up late, played the 'I never' game and maybe learnt a little too much about eachother. Anyway, time for bed.
Up and about early the next morning, stocked up on breakfast and hopped back on the bus. We saw a memorial, saw some churches, bought some Haggis (which is still delicious) and some black pudding (also not bad, if you can get past the pigs blood thing). That afternoon we went back to where we were staying and Nigel, this awesome Scottish man (dont really know how anyone knew him, but someone did) decided we could all go out on his fishing boat with him on the Loch. It was about 5ish, so sunset time. Out we go, bottle of whisky in hand, onto the Loch. It was cold. It was windy. IT WAS AMAZING. He got fresh scallops out of the Loch and opened them right there, so I ate a heap of fresh ones. It was so delicious. We climbed up the front of the boat while it was moving and the dolphins were frolicking about, all under the boat and jumping up and having a great old time. We were out there for a couple of hours, and it was just so mind-blowingly awesome, I really didnt want to leave. But alas, we had to. We also decided to have a 'bad taste' party that night, where we all went to a charity store and bought clothes that we wouldnt want to wear, and then traded them in. Photos were not permitted, but we all looked pretty sexy. So after we had our Haggis feast we cranked out the Missy Higgins (Danny was obsessed... disturbingly.. I've head more Missy Higgins than I need to in a lifetime) and had a bit of a dance, played Charades... had a great time.
Next day we headed of to Loch Ness. It was about 2 degrees this day. I went for a swim with three other Australians. IT WAS SO COLD. I thought I would lose my feet. They were blue. Someone elses legs went all lumpy. It was very painful. But we had to do it. I didnt see Nessie, although something funny did brush past my leg... guess i'll never know! There are photos proving that I went in, they are just missing in action at the moment. I'll pop them up when I find them.
BASICALLY I love Scotland and it is my official favourite place in the whole entire world. It also has handsome men, who I like. Accents are very nice. Ahem
