Hey all
So after I left Scotland (Sob!) I went back to London to the Green Man and picked up megan. Nothing that exciting happened in London, just hung out with the old gang and had a good time. Megan got back from Contiki on friday and on saturday we headed out to High Wycombe to farewell Kala, as she heads back this week. Wasnt a great night, but then its High Wycombe so... whats to be expected?
Anyway, the next morning bright and early (and feeling queasy) we jumped on a bus to Luton airport to head to......... GALWAY. The city of joy. Or music. Or interesting folk. Great place. Our plane was about the size of my hand so that made us a little nervous. The flight was pretty speedy and when we landed there were cows on the runway (FIJI FLASHBACK) and we got a cab into Galway city (the only option sadly.) We found our Hostel which was almost in the centre of town (awesome!) and went and had a Nana. We were awfully tired and not feeling the greatest from the night before. We didnt really do much this day.
16th March
Next morning, bright and early we got our complementary breakfast and went out to explore Galway! What a brilliant place! It's rather small, which is nice and is right on the ocean. It is the most Irish place in Ireland (according to lonely planet) where people actually speak Irish and certainly do drink alot. We walked all around town seeing sights like The Spanish Arch, Lynchs Castle, Salmon Weir (mmm Salmon..), the Big University (cant remember the name), the Big Cathedral where we went to a really nice service.... It was a big morning anyway. We also saw James Joyce's ladys house. Or something. We wandered around, went back to the house and made some 2 minute noodles for lunch (we are very VERY poor at this point in the trip). In the afternoon we went and attempted to suss out what the go was for St Patricks Day the next day. We had a few drinks, chatted to some lovely folk and went back to the hostel to get an early night in because we knew it was going to be a big day tomorrow,
AND A BIG DAY IT WAS
St Patricks Day in Galway, Ireland is better than I ever could have imagined. What was one day a peaceful beautiful little place into a sea of green and beer. We were up to see the parade, which was hilarious and entertaining. There was everything from ... oh I cant even describe it. Just everything you could ever imagine, and all. Lots of annoying screaming children though. I didnt like that.
After the children we needed a beer so we headed into a pub and got a TAKEAWAY beer to have you know, just casually while you are walking around in the street. Please take notice of the photo of me, holding a beer, standing with two policemen. Really joyful. We headed out down towards the water after meeting quite a few strange people. I started taking photos of all of the Rangas. They are everywhere. It amazed and excited me. At the water there was music, drinking, dancing... we were there until about 1am when we went back to someones house to continue the party, and headed home a couple of hours after that. I dont even know how to describe it. It was so joyful. One of my favourite days of all time.
Sadly, the following day (NO HANGOVER, by the way. What a winner) we jumped on a bus to Dublin. That's where I am right now. I can imagine what all of Marian Keyes' novels look like now. Dublin is kind of like Melbourne though. They are really similar, we only really needed a day here. Off to Belgium bright and early tomorrow.
WELL HURRAH I am up to date. I miss you all alot. Please keep writing. Lots of love xo
