Hi!
Ok will update you guys on the last week or so.....
* Spent 4 nights in Prague. Hadnt booked accom so when we got to the (VERY) dodgy train station we had to resort to an even dodgier accommodation booking agency. Ended up getting a feral flat for $50 a night but only stayed one night as we ended up snagging the sweetest apartment that was only 5 mins from the centre and it came with breakfast too. Score.
* Prague is a very picturesque city and it was really enjoyable walking around. Having said this the weather wasnt the best; we copped our first dose of crap weather and our first dose of crowds, crowds, crowds! Walked across Charles Bridge and went to Prague Castle which was great and had fantastic views of the city (after climbing 300 spiral stairs!) Had a traditional Czech dinner which was really cheap and definitely gave us some economic relief.
* We then caught a 4 and a half hour train to Vienna in Austria. The city is very similar to Prague....oldy worldly and all that. We took in all the sights (St Stephans Church, Mozarts house and went to the summer palace of Schloss Schonbrunn which was huge ......maze and all! Wouldnt mind living there! On my bday there was a public holiday ....dont know why.....must have been for me! Went to an amusement park in the centre of Vienna. Had a ride on a ferris wheel and got great views of the city (even though i was screaming for the first 5 minutes ....you know the deal Lanz) That night went out for dinner at a Goulash place.
All in all, Vienna is a very nice place but probably is more of an " over 50s crowd" There you go mum......
* We are now in Bled, Slovenia. This has GOT to be one of the most picturesque places in the world! Today we hired a rowing boat and Gerard rowed us out to the famous church in the middle of the lake here (def was an experience!) We also went summer tobogganing and had a drink up the top of the castle.
* We are staying in a private room which is a really cheap way to travel. On a side note, yesterday when we arrived, we gave our hostess our passports (as you have to do) and she came back up to the room and goes " Oh! It was your bday yest! Heres a present!" It was a bottle of perfume, fully wrapped up ....card and all! Yes, very nice but at the same time a tad creepy.....haha
* From here.... the plan is to hire a car for the next 2 days. Going to another lake close to here that is apparently better than this one (thanks to a local who told us this on the train ride). Then going to Piran which is a town on the coast near Italy which should be cool.
Gotta go now.... the internet is REALLY steep here!
Will post photos in the next couple of days!
Seeya!
PS Thank you so much for all the messages, emails and text messages for my bday. It NEARLY made me homesick haha
