This morning we went river sledging. We were up at 7am and after another bakery bagel for breakfast we walked into town to be picked up.
There was a 35min bus ride to the Kawara River where we were sledging. We were issued wetsuits and booties and life jackets for the second time this trip and got all dressed up. They then took us down to the river for our first taste of the water and also a quick lesson. After the lesson I was quite nervous because they went over quite a bit and when we were actually in the water running through all the maneuvers it was pretty tiring. The least concerning part was the temperature of the water which we had been the most concerned about! Anyway we headed into the river and off we were.
At first I thought I was doing okay and it was pretty fun. The rapids were probably the best part, as long as you didn't panic. After I think the first rapid I started to lag behind a bit and the back guide had to drag me along, actually a fair few times, haha. It was still great fun though. We stopped towards the end of the run and were offered the chance to jump off a rock into the river. I decided to do it and it was great fun. It was hard work climbing up the rocks though because my legs were so shaky and tired by then! We just had a bit more in the river to go after that.
When we made it to the end of the run we had the opportunity to go through again but I was so shaky at that point that I decided not to go. There were two other girls who decided not to as well so we sat around chatting whilst we waited for the others. Mel did the second run and said it was heaps more competitive with all the guys and that there was heaps of jostling and stuff so I'm glad I decided not to go because I don't think I would've liked that as much. She said she had a good time though so that's good being her birthday and all.
After everyone had gotten changed and had a piece of fruit or muesli bar snack we piled back into the bus and drove back into town.
Back at our hotel we had a shower and then a nap in preparation for New Years.
We went out for dinner tonight at a place called the cow. They had pizza which was good but not great.
We went to a pub for New Years called the pig and the whistle which was fun and we made friends with "the family". It was a much better night than we thought it would be.
