Hello avid readers,
Today we have a special guest writer, me, Mr Shannon McMahon. Today started as any day does, we woke up. It was a relatively easy awakening, although my super soft pillow made it slightly harder, and after the mandatory showering and grooming we were out the door and on our way to breakfast by 8.
Breakfast
The food they put on here at Nusa Dua is pretty epic. Exotic fruits, no worries. A wall full of pastries, done. Guy making omelettes to order, naturally. In other words a super large amount of food and I made sure I dented the pasty wall. Filled up it was time to venture out into Bali.
Markets
The first stop on our bus tour was to a small town, Ubud, with an unproportionally large amount of market vendors. The driver dropped us off and we headed into the market where the onslaught began. Each stall is about 2-3m2 filled from floor to roof with either clothes, garments or statues. Some of the items are nice however it's literally the same thing again and again with each merchant spouting "hello, good price, $2". It becomes a bit over whelming really and somewhat conflicting as on one hand you want them to piss off but on the other hand this is their life and source of income. In the end I bought a little turtle statue and Katie got two nice dresses.
Monkey palace
Monkeys be cray yo. At this place you pay a small fee and then buy some bananas to feed the monkeys. However 2 steps in and monkeys are demanding bananas. So to keep the little b*****s from climbing up onto you, you must give them a banana. Katie was shelling bananas out to the little plebs until one impatient b****** jumped up onto her shoulder. She tried to hold up a banana but each time she did it was on the wrong side and as the monkey ran to that side she moved it. So after a few frantic seconds of trying to give it a banana it grabbed the goods and jumped off. Needless to say Katie was done with the bananas, handing them to me as to which I dispersed them out before I was mugged. Once you shell out the yellow fruits the fur balls leave you alone and the place is lovely. We wandered around, took some photos, laughed at other people being attacked for bananas and then headed off.
Volcano
After the market we drove to a volcano. Unfortunately it was not smoking but it did look nice from our lookout. At this stop we had lunch where it over looked the volcano and we were lucky enough to score bench seats on the edge. While eating and looking at the volcano a storm slowly rolled in which eventually blanketed the valley in white eliminating the view. So it was quite cool to see the view slowly disappear.
Luwak coffee
Luwak is a small rodent thing (looks like a cross between a possum and a cat) which has a taste for ripe coffee cherries. After eating them they poop out the coffee bean. Some bright spark decided that it would be a great idea to collect the luwak poop, dig the beans out, and make some coffee. Funnily enough it's good! The luwak is very selective with the coffee it eats and the passed beans, after propped treatment, make for a great coffee. So yeah , we did that.
Back at the resort
Once we got back to the resort following a long and almost painful drive we had dinner out on the beach with our feet on the sand. Before heading to bed we took a short stroll down the beach and onto a breakwater where there were tiny crabs running around. It was quite peaceful.
