Latest big adventure was Fraser Island. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world - you are put in groups, sent out to do your food shopping, given a 4x4 and sent off to roam around the island for three days.
Aside from sand getting everywhere, it was actually a thoroughly good experience. And experience it was. I had to sleep in a tent for starters. There were no toilets at the campsite and the place was full of dingos.
We had a pretty decent group of 11. Although there were five 20 year old Swiss lads who were incapable of, well, anything really. One lad (from Leek - was so nice to hear that Stokey accent) caught a fish from the sea which we ate that evening.
During the day we drove around. I was trusted with the lives of ten other people but didn't feel that confident driving on the sand as many people got bogged. Leah on the other hand was a right rally driver, very good apart from the one hole she under estimated. The lads looked like crash test dummies bouncing around, banging their heads on the ceiling. Very amusing for the three girls sat safely in the front.
We went to gorgeous lakes and spent time swimming and sunbathing (the weather was actually amazing for this trip - about time). We also went to a lookout where we saw tiger sharks swimming about 30m from the shore.
During the evenings, we cooked and drank. Then we'd ponder to the beach and look at the stars. Happy Days. Some drunks from another group went swimming - rather stupid considering the aforementioned tiger sharks.
After the three showerless days, I was more than ready for home and very proud of myself for lack of strops as we all know camping is not my strong point!
We then moved onto Noosa and went to Australia Zoo, Steve Irwin's zoo. As far a zoos go, it was not great and they charged a huge entrance fee for brand Irwin. However, I finally got to cuddle a koala bear here. They are like little babies - so cute!
Then our current and final stop on the east coast - Byron Bay. A real hippy/beach resort. We are having a nice relaxing time as next week we are back to Sydney for a motnh working. I have my old job back and start on Tuesday.
Hope everyone is well - keep me posting with your antics!
