Just when I think life really can't get any better, we only go and rock up at the site where Peter Andre filmed Mysterious Girl! The Aussies apologised and found it all quite embarrassing, however, we'd already whipped off our clothes and started splashing around in the waterfall and singing all the lyrics, ah, took us right back to 1996!
So Cairns has been very busy. We went on a tour of the Atherton Table lands where we spent the most fun day of our lives sliding down waterfalls (in the rain I hasten to add), eating bad things and playing games on the bus - including one where you all have a match stick in your mouth and have to pass a polo around the moving bus. Totally regressed but had lots of laughs.
It was this day trip where I acquired my bush wound. A leech sucked on my leg. There was blood everywhere. At first I was a little concerned that it may have been a spider, but our expert guide recognised the bite and the emergency chopper was halted.
Next up was scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We had booked onto the budget tour but were upgraded to the posh one on account of there not being enough stingy people around here! It was a great dive - my fourth now and so different to the rest. The fish were really colourful, but it was the coral that was truly stunning. And in amongst it all, we did indeed find Nemo.
After our adventure underwater, we headed over to the rainforest - Cape Tribulation. It was really pretty but full of deadly creatures! We saw a crocodile, two snakes, a cassowary (big bird which can disembowel humans - oh good) and spiders which were bigger than a big man hand span. All in the wild.
We actually slept in the rainforest. In wooden huts. I say slept, Leah did but I was awake all night after hearing something run either in our room or on our roof. There were also spiders in the toilets and showers (remembered to check under seat - we've all see aracnophobia). Terrifying but well worth the experience.
I haven't mentioned this, but it has rained almost every day since we've been here - and this is the tropical area! We really do bring it with us! So you will all be pleased to hear that my tan is virtually non-existant!
Next we are off to the Whitsunday Islands - on Tuesday we will be sailing on a boat for a couple of nights. Fingers crossed for the weather!
