Ahhhh Pariee! It was well....another city as most AIFSers would be willing to describe it to you. Or as Grenoble on stereroids. Either is just about correct. All I can say is well I can't wait to go back and experience what Paris really has to offer. Our hotel, the Hotel Belle Epoque was in the Marais Quartier close to the Bastille and Gare Lyon. That was very exciting because it meant we were central to a good metro and great restaurants surrounded us. The first day we were there, we toured the Marais Quartier, saw an old church, Place des Vosages(done in brick by Henri 4th....i think, dont take my word on it) the outline of the Bastille and the Opera Bastille, which most Parisiens think is ugly. Thursday night we went to La Valse de Pingiouns. Which was hilarious.....when we could understand it. If you want to know the story line, you'll have to email me, because...well.....lets just say even though everyone kept their clothes on, it was a sexually charged comedy(like most of Paris). Friday we woke up and ate a WONDERFUL breakfast.....I think I like vacationing for the breakfast, because its the one time I get a proper breakfast! Then we headed out to the Pere Lachaise. Which is a cemetary full of famous people. And yes, I saw James Morrisions grave. There was also a cat that seemed to be getting more attention than the grave. I guess thats what it gets for being a tortise shell cat sitting on a grave stone. Friday afternoon Kate and I headed up to the Moulin Rouge, which we took a picture of and headed straight back into the metro to get out of the area. It was slightly disturbing. Also that afternoon Miranda took us AIFSers to the Tour Montparnasse, to provide us with a beautiful veiw of the city. That also provided me with my only change of seeing the Louvre and the Tour Eiffel. Friday night Kate and I also went overboard on food, which is not hard to do, but well, we outdid ourselves. I do very much reccommend the Bofinger on Place Bastille for anyone in the area. Be prepared to spend some money though....the good food costs. Saturday we got up....once again and went to the Opera Garnier. Which is GORGEOUS. Its very hard to describe though. Its very flashy and marbley and gold. We then walked down the most expensive street in Paris and saw the bar where the Bloody Mary was invented. I also saw the Ritz hotel where Princess Diana spent her last nights. Emily, Kate and I then headed across Paris to go to the Musee Cluny or the Musee Nationale du Moyen Age. (the National Museum of the Middle Ages) I got to see my Unicorn and Lady Tapestries and saw a lot of religious relics from the Middle Ages. I spent a good 2 hours there. Emily and Kate left to go shopping, and I being the Shopping hater that I am.....declined and went on a walking tour of the Latin and Marais Quartier. Paris is beautiful. I'm glad I didn't go there to go shopping. Grenoble has most everything that Paris has in my price range. Saturday night I grabbed some takeout Chinese and watched a French Variety show. It was cool. Sunday morning, we checked out of the hotel and took a walking tour of the Latin Quartier and then Kate and I split off to do a quick, almost disrespectful-but not quite, tour of the Shoah Memorial. (a memorial to the Holocaust) It was beautiful and I wish that I would have had more time, but when a TGV leaves, it leaves. So Sunday afternoon, back on the the TGV AIFS went and came home to Grenoble. Where apparently it was raining, cold, and their shutting down tram stations for fixing......which only means that it will be that much harder to get around. Oh well. Grenoble is easy. I believe that is Paris in a nutshell. My photos will be up as soon as my computer accepts my card reader. So until then keep dreaming of Paris and I'll be going as quick as I can!
Bisous!
