Oh My Gosh!!! I just spent the weekend in Provence and it was amazing. It helped that it was warm and sunny almost the whole weekend. We left Grenoble at 730 AM Friday morning and made our first stop around 1030 at Chateauneuf-de-pape. When the papcy was located in Avignon, this Chateau was their get-away spot. It famous for its wine and Folie, which is a special wine made only at this Chateau. Miranda had set up a wine tasting for us, so we got to try all the different wines made there. They were a bit dry for me, although it could be blamed on my cold that prevents me from tasting anything. We then went to Pont de Gard, the largest...I think....or at least oldest remaining roman aquaduct in Europe. It was amazing. We then finished the day in Avignon, visiting the Palais des Papes, which was where the Popes ruled from and Le Pont de Avignon. And yes. I sang Sur Le Pont de Avignon, although apparently I'm the only child who listened to Raffi.....or still listens. On Saturday we traveled to Chateau Tarascon, which when Provence was still Provence and not part of France, was an outpost that was along the French/Provence boarder. It's really cool, it looks exactly like the castles I drew as a kid. Then it was to Les Baux de Provence and le chateau d'images. The first is an ancient town that is located literally on the face of a rock. There is an old citadel that was a look out for the region on top, and the town is located down along the sides. Very cool. I found snails, so I spent a good 30 mins playinig with them. Le Chateau d'images is an old rock quarry that has been turned into a gigantic projection screen. You walk inside and on all the walls, there are different pictures and music playing. This year it is Venice. Very cool. We finished saturday at Ste. Maries De la Mer. Right on the Mediterrainen. Warm and Sunny. Sunday morning I got to go horse back riding for about 2 hours, so I was content for the rest of the day. Then I went and sat on the beach from 12-230, before getting back to the bus so we could leave at 3. Ste. Maries de la Mer is one of those places you only go if you know about it. It was very small, but quaint, and they even ran bulls through the street on Sunday, dont ask me why, but it was cool. Food Friday night was amazing. I had the best French Onion Soup, but it was so hot, I sweated for hours. The chocolate mousse was great also!! Saturday I apparently was sleeping when I ordered my food, so I got this weird fishy tart thing that was very salty so I ended up feeling sick 1/2 through the meal. oh well. Other than that, this weekend was great, and I'm even a little pink.
Kisses!
