Hello!
Well when we arrived in Queenstown we were hoping to stay in a hostel after having had a few nights in the tent but no such luck as all the hostels were fully booked and the cheapest rooms left in the town were $100 a night! so we found a holiday park and out came the tent again for the next 4 nights! We hadn't thought about it being Easter weekend and there was also a big rugby match on there so Queenstown was full of kiwis aswell as the usual travellers, good job we did have the tent!
On our first day there we went on a bus tour on a big red london double decker which was driven by a yorkshire man! It took us to see the first bungy site which Andy would be doing 2 days later and then onto a wine and cheese tasting place. We sampled some wine and went into the cheese bit twice to sample as much free cheese as we could get, they were a bit stingy with it though! After that the bus took us to Arrowtown which is a little gold mining place. It was really nice there i had a big ice cream and andy enjoyed a drink in the sun. We want to do some paning for gold but couldn't find where you got the pans from so we missed out on finding our fortune there!
The next day it was Easter day we had a look around the town and all the different shops they had there. My Mum had suprised us with some money so we could go to a restaurant and have a nice dinner for Easter so we went to a restaurant that evening and had a really nice meal and chocolate fudge cake for pudding, we were well and truly stuffed but happy we had a meal in a restaurant for once!
The next day was bungy jump day! We got up early and headed to the pick up place so andy could start the first of his 3 jumps! Im a chicken so just watched! We gpt taken to the first site the bridge place and andy wasted no time in hedaing up to the platform! He asked to get dunked into the river below but he did too good a dive off the platform so he didn't end up getting wet. Some people got soaked. I was not tempted in the slightest to do ajump after watching! This was the smallest jump you could do. Next up was the Nevis the big 134 foot jump. We got taken out to a big canyon type place where the platform was way up high on some wire type things and you got taken over to it on a trolley thing that went along the wires. Just going on this scared me! The platform had a glass floor in parts of it so you could see how far down it was. Andy was the heaviest so had to go first. He had a big grin on his face, i think it was part nerves but he reckons he wasn't that nervous. He did another massive dive down into the canyon and when he eventually got pulled back up to the platform said he loved it. The men helping with the jumps were not impressed that he was wearing his England Shirt!
He didn't do his last jump until 6:30pm as the people said it was better doing it when it starts getting dark. This was off a ledge up the top of the mountain and was slightly higher than the first jump but you could do a run up and flips if you wanted. We got the gondolas up to the moutain where there was good views over the city. We bumped into a girl we had been on the feejee experience with. Its funny where you bump into people you know in random places. Andy did his jump with a run up and managed to do two front flips! most people just ran off it. He got a free t-shirt for his efforts and lots of photos and a dvd.
The next day we just relaxed in Queenstown, had a few drinks and wandered around the town again as the next day we were getting an early coach to Dunedin.
lots of love kate and andy xxx
