Today we arrived at the Shannon airport and took a bus to Cork. It was about a 2 1/2 hr ride. We saw a lot of cows along the way, they were very clean and healthy looking! Where are the sheep? I expected lots of sheep! One interesting and beautiful thing we noticed from the bus windows was that the land was separated by rock walls that are about 3-4 feet high. When sons inherited the land, they separated the family land by building a rock wall.
Once we arrived in Cork, John met us at the bus station. We sent mom off with Sister Sheila Fox, Sister Helena's niece. They drove to Fermoy which has a Presentation convent, and the grave of Sister Helena...which is the whole reason for this adventure. 8 Sisters still live there and are all very old and retired. They extended Sharon a traditional Irish tea. One of Sister Helena's oldest friend's, Maura , showed up unexpectly at the convent. She invited Sharon and Sheila to her house across the street to see photos of Sr. Helena.
While my mom was at the convent, John and I went to many pubs. Sampling Guiness, Smithwick, Beemish and others! Our fav spot Maynes Pharmacy and wine bar where we discovered bonaffi pie! A dessert of the queen! Right then we ordered a cookbook with the recipe from amazon.uk...photos to come!
