Julia, Peihui, Mr. Zhao, and I climbed to one of the peaks of Mt Hua. We took a gondola part of the way up and them climbed for just over an hour to one of the peaks. It was quite crowded with visitors and vendors selling locks for wishes. It is a custom to buy a lock and put it on a chain on the mountain, make a wish, then once your wish is fulfilled come back to pick up your lock.
Another interesting detail are the number of hotels, shops, and restaurants on the mountain. This wouldn't be surprising given its status as a tourist stop, but once you realize that everything on the mountain is carried by porters on their backs it is quite astounding. The porters make 60 yuan per trip (about 10USD) . I was able to get a picture of the oldest porter. He has been doing this for years and is 75 years old young.
