What a beautiful and sunny day - hopped in a big toyota 4wd troupey and headed for another beautifully secluded beach. Taken out by an Indigenous lady and her 2 kids (so cute!) .. we spent the day collecting cockel shells and crabs aswell as cooking and eating them and baking damper on the beach.. so good! Lots of other Indigenous people around all doing their thing on their land.. really nice to see them out here minus the alcohol, cigarettes and dogs! We really do have such a beautiful country.. makes me even madder about the state of Maningrida itself, there is just so much rubbish and run down and burnt out cars that it literally just feels like a tip, I constantly find myself picking up rubbish.
I have met so many wonderful Indigenous people - they have all told me their stories and its simply lovely. Ive also had so many discussions with the girls in my group up here about the government and the way they have and are tackling the issue of indigneous people - we always come to the conclusion that an answer to the situation is seeminly impossible.. although i hope one day there is an answer and it is a good one.
Loved the damper so much today by the beach that i whipped one up for dessert for all the girls.. what can i say.. chef large (prounced in french accent) was successful tonight! :)
