Happiness Is The Road
Got up early this morning, about half 6 and had a shower and did my dishes from last night. Then I got out of this awful camp site. I decided to have breakfast somewhere else, that's the beauty of a camper van! I initially went to the picnic area just around the corner on the Nornalup Inlet. It was beautiful and sunny on the waterfront but there were just so many flies. Loads of them swarming around me. As I didn't want to eat any of them for breakfast I moved on! I decided to go to the giant Tingle Tree which was about 15 minutes away. There were still flies here but not as many so breakfast was good, porridge and toast and coffee, excellent. By the way Julia I'm soaking my oats in water the night before and then heating my porridge on the hob, it tastes just yummy this way. So after morning nourishment I went to have a look at this big Tingle Tree. It was a whopper ( the largest known girthed eucalypt in the world) and I was therefore relieved to discover that you can't climb this one. I went on the walk trail here and there were some interesting information boards about dinosaurs. I thought of you immediately, Louis. Check out the photos of the boards with some interesting dinosaur facts for you!! ROOOOOAAAR! I then headed to the Valley of the Giants treetop walk . This is a metal supported walkway that weaves its way through the tree canopy. It reaches a maximum height of 40 metres, most definitely high enough for me! You could see all the way down through the little holes in the walkway and my vertigo did kick in just a little bit. This is a bit scary at 40 metres on a supported walkway with barriers to stop you falling. I dread to think what it must be like even higher than this 61 metres up a ladder on the Gloucester Tree! After this went to find my camp site and along the way stopped off at Conspicuous Cliff and Beach. Another very beautiful beach, there are just so many amazing beaches here. Whilst here I bumped into a guy who was on his own and having a rest with his backpack. He was five days into walking the Bibbulum Track. This is one of the worlds great long distance walk trails stretching nearly 1000 kilometres from Albany to Kalamunda in the hills near Perth. He had 25 days to go. I wished him the very best of luck. I really admire him for doing this, what a challenge! Also whilst here I got talking to a lovely couple from Perth who gave me loads of advice about where to go and also how to swim out of a rip if caught in one! Then it was onto Peaceful Bay just a short drive away down an amazing dirt road. Had to go very slow at no more than 30 kilometres an hour. I checked in at the camp site reception that doubled as the local shop and post office. I was shown a map of the camp area and told that I could go wherever I wanted. I had a good drive around looking out for a quiet spot with preferable a fire ring. I went back to the best spot I could find, a lovely private secluded area with a fire pit. I just chilled here this afternoon in the lovely bushland setting watching the wildlife. There are some amazing birds here, and I mean of the feathered variety! There are also an incredible number of flies here pestering you constantly. I had my own harem of about 20 flies constantly buzzing around my head, in the camper, out of the camper, on the beach, everywhere. When I was doing my dishes at the outside sink I could hardly see for flies, they were all over my glasses, in my ears, up my nose and some desperately trying to be swallowed alive! I did go for a walk along the beach with the constant company of my flies! It was beautiful and very quiet, a very peaceful bay! Later on I got my fire going and relaxed to the mesmeric flickering of the flames. Had a wonderful steak and salad tea and then in bed asleep by about half 9! Took about 10 minutes to rid the camper of flies and moths. This is one of the best places I've stayed, so relaxing and such a great location., apart from the flies! Another amazing day. Nite nite everyone. Big yaaaaaaawn!
