Happiness Is The Road
We made an early escape from the camp site as we had the camper booked in for a service at half seven. We had covered 5000 kilometres in only about three weeks since we were in Alice Springs! We have really been motoring and clocking up the k's. The distances between places in the Northern Territory and this part of Western Australia have been simply staggering. Kilometre upon kilometre of desolate bush and red dirt we have covered. It has been a fantastic road trip but with all this distance covered our beloved little camper needed a service. We got to Mishull Mechanical Repairs just before half seven and waited there whilst the service was done. Just after the camper had been taken in one of the mechanics came out and said that there was a noise coming from the drivers side and that it might be a wheel bearing and that it could be serious. He told us that they'd have a look and let us know. There had been a slight rattling noise coming from the drivers door but it didn't sound like a problem to me. We googled wheel bearings whilst we were waiting to get an idea of seriousness and cost and sat there waiting apprehensively hoping for the best. I hate waiting at garages for news. I'm sure they sometimes say stuff and keep you waiting on purpose as a cruel joke. Just over an hour later we were put out of our misery when the mechanic came back out and told us that we were good to go. The service had been done and they couldn't find anything wrong with the wheel bearing or anything else for that matter. They simply told us to keep an eye on it! It is possible the rattling in the door could be from something as simple as a peanut M&M. I had a hire car a few years ago and whilst in it I opened a big bag of peanut M&M's rather too violently and the packet contents flew out all over the car. One of the little b*****s got flung into the door panel and from then on the car rattled it's way round every corner and roundabout!.This incident by the way was before I discovered the dangers of sugar otherwise M&M's poisonous little coloured blobs would not have got anywhere near my clumsy little mits! With much relief we left the garage and hit the highway south. We were very happy to be leaving Broome. The highway took us through a landscape of very barren bush and scrub down to the Sandfire Roadhouse over 300 kilometres away. It had been a very lonely and desolate stretch of highway and Sandfire was the first place of note that we had come across since leaving Broome. It was only a tiny roadhouse but it was a lovely friendly place and we got a space on the caravan park at the rear of the roadhouse. It was a really cute place with red dirt everywhere and the bonus of a veritable concoction of wildlife. There were beautiful birds including peacocks roaming freely around the place and behind a fence at the back there was a huge and very grand looking bull. Just near the bull there was a really comedic looking camel who started grogging like he was going to hurl his spit at us! They really are funny looking creatures and it was great to see one of these funny beasts close up. He was pulling some really funny faces. He was trying his best to avoid the bull, obviously believing that he was a far more superior beast. The bull just looked at the camel with a look of contempt and probably thinking to himself 'what a cock'! Talking of c*** there was also a beautiful cockerel strutting around the place. It was really lovely here and to make matters even better the facilities were lovely and clean with powerful showers. The only drawback was that there were an unbelievable amount of insects here. The most we have ever seen in one place. They were in plague like proportions. We left the back of the camper open far too long and when we looked at the light we had moths and other creepy looking little insects all over the place. It took Jay ages to get them out It started clouding over before tea and the air felt like a storm was brewing.
