Happiness Is The Road
It rained overnight and was still raining in the morning. It continued raining until just after lunch time. This was the first rainfall though in about three weeks or so. It didn't bother us as we just lay all snugged up in bed for ages, had a late breakfast and just chilled out. By about 2pm the rain had stopped and we walked through to the National Park. We first of all went to look whether the koala from yesterday was still in the same tree, he wasn't. There was another one we spotted nearby but he was very high up and fast asleep. There were lots of walk trails to choose from in the National Park. We decided to go on the Waterfall Hike, about 6 kilometres. It was mainly flat but with a few short steep sections. Jay isn't used to all the walking yet but did an excellent job in battling the hilly bits. I feel like her personal trainer and will get her fully fit in no time. Despite the hills Jay really enjoyed the walk. Near the beginning of the walk we had to go through a fairly long tunnel under the railway line. At one point you couldn't see your feet and could only see the light coming through at the other end. We were very brave. When we got out the other end a train started to come across. It was a goods train and was massive, it just went on and on and on. We didn't wait for it to fully go over. We saw a couple of koalas on the way but they were high up and asleep. After a while we came to the waterfall viewing platform, but there was absolutely no water. As it is summer and very dry the waterfall wasn't in action. The waterfall area was very green and lush though from when the water had flowed. We got talking to a few people who were already there. They pointed out a nearby koala and told us that they had seen some kangaroos on the walk. We didn't see any roos. Jay will have to wait a while longer for her first roo. We then carried on further along the walk trail and suddenly at the top of a steep bit we heard a growling noise from the trees. I knew that this was the noise of a male koala. He seemed to be calling us over! We followed the noise and saw him. He was massive as koalas go and he was awake, looking around and having a big scratch. We watched him for ages and took loads of photos of him. Jay was ecstatically happy to see such a gorgeous one. She called him 'the bruiser'! Eventually we left 'the bruiser' to get on with his stuff and we walked back to the camp site. We saw a beautiful kookaburra on the way back. We were starving when we got to the camper. We used the camp kitchen to make an extremely yummy sausages, eggs and mushrooms. We ate at the back of the camper looking at the wonderful woodland view. We are ecstatically happy.
