Happiness Is The Road
We got up quite early as we're moving on today. We were both really excited to be on the move, especially Jay. We're not going far, just up to a National Park in the Adelaide Hills. We first of all though went to the West Lakes Shopping Centre to get a few bits and pieces and to do some food shopping at Woolworths. We got a sun hat for Jay because the sun is strong here and she needs to be sheltered from it. I think she looks lovely in the hat but Jay reckons that hats look funny on her so therefore I am banned from putting any hat photos on the blog! I might sneak one on though when she's not looking! Jay has noticed very quickly something that I have already discovered about this wonderful country. That is that the people are so very friendly. Most people seem to be really cheerful and are so helpful. People are generally so much nicer than in the UK. This is a really happy country. After stocking up we drove just a short distance down the coast to Henley Beach where we had a walk along the sand and in the warm sea. We walked along blissfully happy. It was then onto Glenelg where we dropped a few things off for Jack. He is catching the bus to Sydney on Monday, a 24 hour long journey! After we'd sorted everything out for Jack we went up into the hills above Adelaide to the Belair National Park. It only took about half an hour to get there. The roads were very winding on the way up and the scenery was wonderful. We saw signs on the road warning of koalas in the area, so you never know we might see one. The camp site was in a great location, set amongst big trees right next to the National Park. The lady at the caravan park was extremely helpful and pointed out how to walk into the park and where the walking trails were. She said that there was loads of wildlife. We had a great spot on the edge of the camp overlooking the trees. It was a lovely peaceful place. We chilled for a while and then went to explore. It didn't take long to walk into the National Park. We saw beautiful parrots and lots of magpies. We got near the adventure playground when suddenly Jay shouted out over there! She had spotted a koala in a tree, really low down and close up. A really cute one and he was awake and eating the leaves. This was so well spotted by Jay. Jay was so happy to see a real wild koala for the first time. I was very happy for her. It was absolutely wonderful to see the delight on her face as she stood transfixed and smiling with delight at this incredible Australian sight. The koala saw us looking and looked a bit grumpy but he carried on with his tea regardless. We watched him for ages. Whilst there we also spotted another one but he was asleep really high up in another tree. We eventually wandered back to the camp site and cooked our tea in the campers kitchen. We ate outside and talked about about the day, another day in paradise.
