It was a very long night on the bus, I did however manage to sleep a little but was constantly being woken up by the bad roads and the dropping temperatures. By morning I had to get my rug out (the one I have borrowed from Elizabeth) - it worked a treat and had me warming up nicely. At about 10am we stopped at Civas bus terminal in some random road stop and was told this was the lunch break - a really crappy time as most people had just eating breakfast and didn't want a cooked lunch at 10am. 45 minutes later we were back on the road and from this point on the sun started to come out and really started to heat the bus up. We arrived at Arequipa at 1:30pm and I rushed off the bus hoping to find a bus to Puno (5 hours away) - I was in luck there was a bus leaving in 5 minutes. The woman sold me a ticket and then ran off with my money trying to get change- when she got back I had guessed I was going to miss bus, I ran out paid my departure tax (absolute croc of s***) and boarded the bus. All was good I thought and then everyone started getting off the bus - a woman grabbed my ticket and ran off meanwhile I was being ushered onto another bus that was reversing out- I tried to explain the lady had ran off with my ticket and they let me on. Luckily I got on the bus as the driver didn't wait for other passengers and the bus was full. Never a dull moment on the road! This bus journey felt longer then the others and at 7pm we rolled into Juliaca (90 km North of where I needed to be) only to find out that the bus would not go any further. This really annoyed me as I had made sure bus would go all the way to Puno by asking ticket sellers, driver and passengers. This old Peruvian lady was nice enough to let me know that there should be a car coming for us in 20 minutes. An hour went passed and finally a bus came and everyone told me to get on - only to find this bus was headed back to Arequipa, I had to run and jump off bus as it was leaving. The temperature is below zero, the air is hard to breathe and I am standing outside waiting for what appears to be a non-existent car/bus to Puno. Eventually it came and we were able to board - thankful to finally be on the way to Puno. Arriving to Puno it quickly became apparent there would be no night buses to Copacabana and I would have to wait for the 7:30am bus. I toiled with the idea of staying in the bus station but after having no bed/shower for 48 hours I thought I better go find a room. I found a hospedaje (small motel) where I ended up getting a very basic room for about $6 - unfortunately the water was cold so no shower but luckily the room was nice and warm. After all the bus travel over the last few days I was absolutely knackered and went straight to bed.
