At around 2am we arrived at the boarder of Ecuador and luckily because of the time there was nobody else there - I got my exit stamp and amazingly got my entry stamp into Peru at the same desk (we were told the two boarders were miles apart??). Within 20 minutes everyone on the bus was cleared but unfortunately customs was going through the luggage under the bus, we boarded the bus but waited another hour before we could depart. Once again I was able to get some more sleep - waking at around 6am hoping that the attendant might bring some breakfast around. Unfortunately no luck with the breakfast but I still had snacks from lastnight so not to worry. We arrived at 8am and unfortunately not to a bus station but just to the individual office of bus company. I walked around and found out very quickly there were no buses heading to Lima until late afternoon which meant a 9-10 hour wait in Piura. I walked around, got some money out and used some Internet in a little Internet cafe - this is going to be a long day. I ended up buying the cheapest ticket I could which was about $13 and the catch the bus would leave Piura at 5:30pm. I had been wondering around and saw they were selling whole cooked chickens at the supermarket for $3.50 - a bargain I could not pass up and a good protein hit for lunch and dinner. Whilst I sat in the park and enjoyed my lunch a guy named John came up and introduced himself and with his very little English and my even littler Spanish had a conversation. After I said goodbye to John the 3 old guys sitting next to us wanted to chat but could only speak limited English but it was really nice they offered me beer and wanted to know about my travels. I had a few more hours to kill so I walked around a bit and then headed to the bus. Boarding the bus I new I was in for a rough night - the bus was rough, jam packed with people and dirty - to go with that I had two screaming kids and their parents behind me kicking and punching the chairs. I had a massive headache, no sleep and feeling sick in the stomach (later found out to be because of the tap water - turns out you can't drink it) so really started to dread the next 20 hours. The bus stopped every 20 minutes jamming more and more people on the bus and we had people playing their music at full ball, kids screaming, guys spitting in the aisle and others having conversations up and down the bus. At about 10pm we stopped at a resteraunt for dinner break so I whipped out the other half of my chicken. The rest of the night with my headphones in I managed to doze on and off.
