Zicatela! Today I got up early and tried to meditate but unfortunately kept falling back asleep. The hostel where I am staying is nice enough but really hot in the night and infested with Mosquitos - places like this are great for a short stay but I definitely wouldn't want to spend too much time here. After breakfast I packed my daypack and headed off up the beach about 4km to the famous surfing break of Zicatela - also known as Mexican pipeline. Walking up the beach you could see the power of the beach break and as I got closer I could sense the power. With about 40 people out it was every man/woman for himself trying to scrape any wave possible. Surfers were crashing into bodyboarders, the beach was covered in tourists, locals, random onlookers and photographers all in awe of the show unfolding infront of our very eyes. I sat for hours taking photos and impressed by the quality and power of the waves - I don't think I even contemplated going out as it was far too heavy. Continuing along the beach I came to a lookout which gave an amazing view of all of Puerto Escondido's beaches and the little bay that was at the base of the town. In the little bay fisherman congregated with the mornings catch of huge sailfish and marlin - famous for sport fishing here. I continued up into the city centre of Puerto Escondido and bee-lined it straight for the Municipal Mercado. The centre was busy but not so many tourists which is always nice. I found the market and was pleasantly suprised how well layed out the place was with sections for the resteraunts, clothing, fruits and vegetables and meats. I tried some delicious roast pork, dried fish, sweets and fruits before deciding on this strange smoked and spiced sting-ray for lunch. With my clump of smoked fish I grabbed some fresh tortillas, avocado and tomato and sat at the edge of the market watching people and enjoying one of the best meals ao far in Mexico: fish tacos. On leaving the market I stumbled across the cacao factory and couldn't help myself; sampling all the different chocolates and buying a big bag of cacao, almond and cinnamon got chocolate mix. Getting back to La Punta was a bit of a mission but a collectivo eventually picked me up and offered to take me out to the turn off. The rest of the afternoon I relaxed and waited for my Skype call with my Mum and Dad for my Mothers Birthday - its always nice to talk with my family. In the evening some more guests came: a couple of guys from Adelaide so we all sat around chatting about travels and our adventures in Mexico before calling it an early night.
